Has Tony Stewart just committed murder on a race track?

I reckon roosting the guy raging would have seemed like a fantastic idea to most people, myself included. But I think it is more likely he could have been distracted with gauges? radio? possibly his own bent car? and just keeping an eye on other cars in his peripheral vision but not expecting a person where they generally never are.

      Maybe / maybe not.

Would the car have hit him if he stayed in his broken car until the marshall's got him out safely ?

      Definitely not.

You can't even see out the RH side of a winged sprinter, guy in front just missed him, idiot on track moved even further infield, driver would have seen him at the last second & then lost him behind the wing, gave it a squirt to pull the car left just in case & collected him.
He would have lost sight of him behind the wing well before he got to him, he'd have NFI where he was or if he'd moved closer (which he had), most likely gave it a squirt to move left a little & maybe throw some roost at dumfuck.

Dumfuck on track where he 100% shouldn't be, dressed in black, moving towards the cars, hidden by the car in front (which just missed him) & then hidden by the wing.
Car is coasting under light throttle & is a fucked shopping trolley at those speeds.
Dumfuck on track is at least 90% to blame.

That's a good point...there is somewhat of a blindspot if you stand at 2 o'clock to the driver's position

Also consider that this is lap 14 of a 30 odd lap race. Every driver would have an inch of mud on their face/everything else.

Quoted from the article Boothy posted.
I have driven winged sprint cars, and as you can imagine, visibility to the side is horrible. Ward was wearing a mostly black fire suit and a black helmet.
Only a dickhead would run onto a track full of cars even if they are only doing 60 kph. Let alone in the night, in black and towards the bad vision side.

After watching the video, the angle makes it look more sinister than it was. Hopefully someone else posts the front/rear view video and this can be put to bed.

                One Darwin award please.

This would have never happened if dumb Americans followed motorsport involving right corners

Thank you for saying what I've been trying to say, but better. I'm pretty angry and disgusted at the way the Americans handle this sort of stuff - and they fact that literally all of the focus has been on what Stewart did, rather than why everyone thinks it's ok for the kid to be on the racetrack.

In the NASCAR race the very next day there was a guy trying to do the exact same thing and no one bats an eyelid. If Stewart doesn't hit him, old mate waving his arms makes the highlight reel to show off the "Passion" and "Emotion".

The thing is though, when guys usually do it, they stand well off line. This parrot walked into traffic.

Just throwing this out there; the drivers wear 20-30 tear-offs on their visors at any given time.

Clay on the visor might not have been an issue, but trying to see past the right-hand sideboard of the wing would have been.

Most tracks have moved to lights now and one-way communication from race control to the drivers, as the drivers simply cannot see a lot of the hazards, let alone flags.

imagine how much you can see, at night, covered in clay in a 900hp 1275Lb missile with the engine solid mounted and the clay throwing wheels out of balance, it blurs your vision at low speed...then add old mate with dark race suit...

Young bloke dead by doing a stupid act really does he deserve that.IMO no.
I just hope this ruins Stewarts life completely but to be honest I doubt he would really care.
He is just trying to say the right things to stay out of jail but he has sufficient funds to stay
out anyway. No he didnt want to kill him but definately wanted to intimanate him and blew it.
