Just because something is heard regularly doesn't make it untrue.
Stereotypes happen for a reason!
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.
Not if you are towing a race car and have to carry stuff for it. A lot more space in a SUV than the boot of a car.
I should clarify ... say you tow once every week, not having Mike Tyson rape you with razor-blades for the remaining 6 days is a Good Thing.

If I see cars like this with a tow bar..I automatically get turned off it...
Im sure these manufacturers market these cars for fuel economy...not to tow your race car right? The Tow rating comes down to the weight of the car right?
One of these is parked out the front of my building..Looks awesome..saw the badge and saw ES300h...what an awesome looking car...probably returns better fuel economy then the 300c, looks better (IMO), its probably cheaper to run in terms of maintenance...and would most likely be more reliable...but im guessing because it has a shit tow rating..and FWD it doesn't get a second look..but lets face it..how "FUN" would a Diesel 300c be to drive??

Ignore fun, let's take "horrible" into account. If you tow once a week & don't have a specific car for it, that means you're in it the rest of the week. And you're better off in something that at least doesn't suck to be sitting-in in traffic.
Sure the Camry you posted above copes with the being comfortable when you're sitting in traffic; but as it can't tow anything, it's not much use for that.
OK if you're not towing & you're needing to carry people around, then the Camry comes back into it (although you'd buy a hybrid Camry with a Toyota badge before one with a Lexus badge, Shirley?).

My idea with a 300C would be as an occasional tower, apparently they tow like a train with no problems at all. The 'hidden gem' thing relates to value for money, new from around $45000, heaps of grunt and way more economical than any comparable petrol job. Decent enough to drive so they say, it's not a euro but it's not euro priced either. Can't understand why they are not way more popular as a general purpose semi luxury family car.
Fun? Well it's a big car, if you like the unique feeling of a powerful turbo diesel spooling up and hauling then that's fun, generally speaking they do appear to have some character.
I'm a convert to modern direct injection diesels, with variable vane turbos (or twins) and 6,7 or 8 speed boxes, these things absolutely haul are and get sensational fuel economy. That aplina video is how I feel about them. In Europe, you wouldn't do it any other way.

That's the thing that gets me - if you're a bit of a stats nerd then these modern diesels look unbelieveable on paper!

I can't understand why Chrysler offer the V6 at all. The car is way to heavy and it becomes a petrol chewing slug of a thing where the diesel has to perform better with all that torque. Modern CR diesels are awesome for towing, I went from a 304 V8 to a 2 litre CR diesel and the diesel shits all over the V8 in every way.
