they've been around forever but never really work in the aircooled cars because you can't cool the V8 properly.
996 and boxster really saw them get popular, what with the IMS fears and already having radiators in place.

and i think putting a V8 in an air cooled car might affect it's value a little lol

yes, and outside of cut up track toys they still tend to overheat at anything over stock hp without big body mods to get actual size radiators in there.
some people make it work, and some people put a radiator under the whale tail grille lol. it's all a big fuck around.. 996 was a godsend for these guys.

                    Cayman>Lotus.

And that's not because it's inferior. Quite the opposite. The Loti is a better car - so much so, that you just can't fully enjoy it on the street. So the stripped race-spec' is a shameful waste, compared.
So the lotus is the better car but the defect is the owner?

NFI, initially they weren't sure what had happened, it broke the timing chain with 60,000 on the clock pulling away from the lights at average speed. Bent a couple of valves on that bank, and damaged the sprocket on the end of the IMS. Craig was sitting there spinning the shaft of the oil pump by hand when I was there and it suddenly locked up, he smiled and said that's it, they are known to do it. In my case engines out, blocks split, so more or less minor rebuild, bearings, heads, rings, no rebore or anything. Check out the IMS thread on the Porsche forum, pretty sure you will quickly work out which guy is me. Buyer beware...http://porscheforum.com.au/index.php...7-ims-failure/
