Yep. After working at a toyota dealer for a year, it was the last straw. Fucked off out of the trade and never looked back. To those saying that the dealers are full of monkeys... after a year I was nearly the longest serving mechanic in the workshop. You cant learn the product in depth in that time.Originally posted by MXKOOP View PostMy BIL worked at a Toyota dealer for a few years. He's a top mechanic, but the morale in the place was fucked. Workshop was full of young guys on min wage getting treated like shit. No one gave a fuck.Originally posted by Rdyno70ynu has to be the most retarded cunt here. I'm in the same boat, trying to compete with capped price servicing. I can get close, but can rarely match or under cut it. Although most people are happy to pay a little extra.Originally posted by T-Matty View Postmy hilux is ment to take 9L of oil, filter, i get fuel filter each time also. $170. my local private mach mate said the oil would cost near that and he couldnt do it.Originally posted by brewdlesIn short, some cunt at test and tune had a 250cc honda turning to 11ty and it sounded porn. Do that.

Yeah, spot on. Staff retention and loyalty means nothing to them. Just about every dealer has a revolving door on it.Originally posted by Bueller View PostYep. Surely at the corporate overhead rate the dealers are losing money on the capped price stuff?Originally posted by Mr Evo 7 View PostI'm in the same boat, trying to compete with capped price servicing. I'd hate to see what shortcuts the apprentice takes to get the job done in the 2 minutes he's been allocated per car.

With a few brands, it's subsidised by the manufacturer.Originally posted by BreaksMyWallet View PostSurely at the corporate overhead rate the dealers are losing money on the capped price stuff?

Ive had my car for almost 3 years now, when i get it serviced the guy sticks a card under the radio, from the first 1000k check up to the last 60,000k service its only ever been done by 2 people, one being a mate of a mate that i know has been there for 6+ years.
This is my local Toyota in a smallish town, might be a little different in the big city dealers. My at the time nopics bought a new Rav4 the same week I got my new Hilux from the other toyota dealer in town and they are total cunts!

Actually it's priced in the price of the car when the car is sold to the dealership and the servicing dealer claims the money from the manufacturer when the car comes into service. If the owner misses the scheduled servicing (3 month servicing window period), the manufacturer pockets the money.Originally posted by Mr Evo 7 View PostWith a few brands, it's subsidised by the manufacturer.

I manage a workshop in Melbourne for a major brand, we do between 55-75 cars a day. We have 13 qualified Mechanics and 1 dedicated Tyre fitter/Wheel aligner, no apprentices and no T/A's. Also 2 full time car washers.
We have 4 Mechanics that have been with the business for over 16 years and have a massive amount of knowledge. We spend a massive amount of money on training all of our Mechanics to ensure they are capable of delivering quality work. I like to think that our workshop bucks the trend of your every day Dealership service centre.

at toyota (not sure if others do it now) it was done very methodically and efficiently.Originally posted by BreaksMyWallet View PostI'd hate to see what shortcuts the apprentice takes to get the job done in the 2 minutes he's been allocated per car.
for the service stuff they had special 'express service bays', where 2 *mechanics were equipped with only the basic tools needed, special carts, allocated jobs within the service and a solid prioritised service 'to do' list. for a basic car like a camry/corolla etc they can do a car in under 20mins piss easy, and all done properly.
*the problem is they equipped the express service bays with unqualified 457 monkeys. so they were still able to do it within time, but everything else was compromisedOriginally posted by Rdyno70ynu has to be the most retarded cunt here.
