    Best low balling techniques?

Nopics wants a new(ish) used car to replace the 95 Lancer GL she has had for the past 10 odd years. So looking at a few options via ads on carsales.

Based on what mates who've had to sell cars recently tell me, its a buyers market for used cars.

Anyone got any tips for lowballing carsales.com.au vendors?

On a ~$20k-ish car, what sort of discount would people expect to get?

turn up with cash or the ability to produce cash in the immediate time

nothing like the promise of a sale to generate discount.

TJ - all cash bid is fine.

Do people just text "how much for cash bro?"

Take some big fuck off islanders along with, they will help convince seller a sale is a good idea.

SMS the seller with "what's your best price?"

Not really, when some lebbo rings me up and says I'll pay cash today for $1500 for a car I have advertised for $3-5k I politely tell them to go fuck themselves. Because they'll actually turn up with $1200 and then make some BS excuse that it's all they have and need a car today etc.

Seriously just rock up, inspect the car and make a reasonable offer based on it's condition and cars currently advertised on the market. I'd generally deliberately offer less than what you are willing to pay for the car and then work your way back up if they say no. Eg Caldina was advertised for $14.5k, I offered $12k and they said $12.5k I said done.

Saving 1-2k isn't that hard. I'm wondering if the low balling technique (ie say $5k off) in the current market works?

The key being, not too low to offend, but still get a decent discount.

text them and tell them you're an offshore oil rig worker. ask them if they're willing to accept paypal or western union, offer to pay more than what they want for the car and that you'll be sending an agent to pick up the car

There's some pre-work that needs to be done, but on the day you go to see a $20K car, turn up with $5K.
                              Offer him the $5K.
                              He'll say no.

Then say ok, but just have a look at this..

Play them the video of their kid saying daddy please help.

                              Then offer him $5K again.
