              Cheers, I have been looking under "vintage racks" on ebay and gumtree, seem to get a lot of basket style ones for Patrols and Cruisers. I think making one or having one made will be the best bet. Only needs to be very simple like the one on the Golf.
              Rust is lighter than carbon fibre.

                            I've got an old set of Thule racks on my 1600. There's some cast bits so they'd be hard to replicate but not impossible. The rest is steel tube.

                                When i had had a dirty old VL a few years ago, i got bored and thought i'd try the roof racks/basket/esky deal on it.

                                Was at the local wreckers getting some bits, found a banged up VR with some gutter mount racks. Off they came, $20.
                                Then i noticed a Jeep Cherokee with a very rusty roof basket. Off that came too, with some help from an angle grinder to cut the rusted bolts off. $50.

                                Then i looked for an old esky on ebay, and found numerous examples. I settled on a yellow metal Malleys job that looked fairly rough and rusty. Won it for $1. I took $5 when i went to pick it up, they guy wouldnt take any money. He couldnt believe someone actually wanted it. Esky $0.

                                End result:




                                The basket was fucking massive. I got lots of negative comments lol. But i liked it.
