        Colour was shit (ran out of time and used some shitty aldi paint).

        Going to make a new set for my datsun wagon when the time comes, but use bamboo slating over the runners.

          That's pretty much how some of them are. It's not like you're going to put any actual weight on the rack.

                    I won't lie, they were a carnt to find, ended up finding them listed on an mx5 website as luggage rack feet. They came from the UK, I bought a spare set as I wasn't sure how long they would be around for.

                    Before I found them I was looking at sink plungers :S

                    I actually took the design from original vw racks which I should have bought on ebay for $300;

                    As shit as they looked, they actually worked surprisingly well, I carried a fair bit of shit in them and they only ever moved slightly. With the flex with the rubber feet, the suction component & the actual nut screwing down and pulling them outwards, they were very solid.

                    I found a design that is adjustable to suit different width roofs and uses a gutter mount, might use that for the next set.

                    I also considered making these as a kit, but if you are doing them yourself they are too labour intensive, you'd need to get them made in china based off a design to make actual money (unless you pay yourself $5 an hour or make a very good jig, but even then the paint and prep blows the time out).
