you can bring in 2 if you glue them together and take the handle bars off the right hand one.

but seriously, you're already allowed to bring in bikes

Yes, but in some states you have to do the RHD conversion before you can put rego on it.

25 year rule is basically an extention of the 1989 rule.

If it's over 25 years old, you can bring it in. Just needs to meet basic compliance, and the usualy roadworthy standards.

adrs will be gone by 2018. spoke to a vicroads guy on monday regarding rwc. apparently australia will be adopting uk/euro rules in 2018 to tie in with the new import system.

do bikes have lopsided headlights like cars?

(e.g. how the cutoff is angled is different LHD to RHD)

on another note. vw aus only brings a select range in to aus, i.e no diesel scirocco, no bi turbo passat. what happens when bob smith imports a non aus car, and cant get parts? or does it mean makers will have to open the range up? i hope the latter.

Bob does what he does now, he gets a price from the local dealer and then hops on the Internet and gets a price which is half as much including shipping and taxes from the guy in the US. Bob orders the parts over the Internet.

No, this legislation isn't going to force manufacturers to service, hold parts, warrant or have anything to do with a car which they aren't importing.

If I can get parts for my 30 year old car that was never sold here, I'm sure Bob can work it out for his new car.

There has to be a catch. Some massive import duty etc

It basically an opportunity for a clued up dealership. Kind of like Castle Hill Toyota for import Toyota parts.
