ISOFIX seats need either a top tether or a foot to work correctly.Originally posted by xbgs351 View PostHow about tests with an incorrectly installed or unconnected tether strap like 90% of them will be. The whole point of Isofix was that it takes incorrect installation out of the equation.
Top tether mentioned here

Hmmm... it would suggest the wait to amend the ADR to allow ISOFIX car seats was to allow the new UNECE reg to be implemented and our ADR to be harmonised.Under the current UN/ECE R14, all new vehicles produced since February 2013 are required to have ISOFIX lower anchorages and top tether attachments.
Luckily all cars sold in Australia they may have had ISOFIX attachments from 1997-ish onwards) would also have top tethers.

Definitely not all cars in Oz since then, and not in Europe either.Originally posted by rj_astra View PostHmmm... it would suggest the wait to amend the ADR to allow ISOFIX car seats was to allow the new UNECE reg to be implemented and our ADR to be harmonised.

Aussie cars had the top tether, but not necessarily the lower seat attachments. A
number of Euro cars have bolt-in accessory kits for the Isofix mounts that you have to pay extra for.
My 2005 Jag X-Type in Switzerland did not have any Isofix mounts in it at all, I had to buy the kit as an accessory and fit it. The kit came with the upper and lower mounts. The Australian delivered X-Types only had the top tether fitted, not the ones in the seat base. In searching for parts I found a lot of Fords & Opels/Vauxhauls were the same, you had to pay extra for them.
It might have changed now, but that's how it was then...Jaguar XJR, Freelander 2 HSE, Jaguar XKR, MINI Cooper S

Oh oh! Let me answer that! Coz the market can support it!Originally posted by Sturmovik View PostJap spec LC70 with petrol V6 - $35k! How does a diesel engine increase its cost by double?

You've got to remember, car prices is NOT determined by cost of manufacturing/marketing + x% margin. They are ONLY priced by how others price similar car and what level it needs to be so that sales don't slow down to remain #1 position.

I think that's what the aim is, stuff for enthusiasts. Bread and butter cars, Mazda 3, 6, Camry, Clio etc won't be imported because really what's the point. However I think a saving of $200k on a 911 will get a lot of bites.Originally posted by Imposter Grant View PostWill I be able to import a clio V6 cheaper with this or...?

$200k savings would be on $600k+ cars ... they're cars for rich people, not cars for enthusiasts.Originally posted by mizone View PostI think that's what the aim is, stuff for enthusiasts. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

AUD $15,400 actually, for the 2WD. The 4WD is $16,657. That's using Suzuki's inquiry simulation and pearl white and all options ticked (there's one... a back camera).Originally posted by CXTdreamer View PostAwesome, the new Alto RS will be just under AU$14k off the showroom floor in Japan, so add a couple of grand for shipping and import duties, could be interesting for $20k
It's cheap here in JP, but after shipping and agents/port fees and rego etc will it be such a good deal still?

My E55 (ten years old) cost £10,500 or A$16000 at the time.
Insurance was £550 (compared to Mazda 6 £500)
I'm over 40 with a clean record, most of the insurance risk is postcode, age and history based. For example we wanted to put the aupair on the mazda insurance, it was going to cost another £1000/year.
Is that a humblebrag?
