...and with 2004 model 4.2 diesels in abundance on the used market which still command new 70 series prices. Not even diehard "Lancru" fans would stomach a new TD V8 70 series for much more than the cost of a 200 series (start at $45K).

That's a $20k difference. So, what's the advantage to stop me going into a US dealer, ordering a RHD one and putting it on the boat?

The reason I say this is in whilst living in the UK people where buying their LandRovers in Holland (ordered RHD) and shipping them to the UK. They saved a mint.

Also what cars are out there that this would apply to. The V6 Clio mentioned before, or like Forg said, only the high end stuff ?
Except Ford US would probably turn around and prevent the dealer in the US from selling RHD Mustangs. Subaru, Jeep and GM prevented dealers in the US selling RHD vehicles to the public, US postal service contractors could buy factory RHD vehicles but they had to be ordered via USPS.

Here the RRP of $133K (no on roads etc) includes GST and the 5% duty. Take both off an you are looking at $115K.

So, how will a parallel importer get one here cheaper?
And when the AUD increases the AUD price will stay *exactly* the same, but the GBP price VS the AUD price will fall. Just open the thing up and let the market decide.

Cayman S Manual: UK is AUD 94K inc 20% VAT
Cayman S Manual: AU is AUD 153K drive away, so let's just allow the 20% VAT for GST, Duties, LCT etc (would be close)

            That's a AUD $59K difference

            Now let's bump up to a GT4

UK Price: AUD 124K inc VAT
            AU Price: AUD 206K driveaway

            That's a whopping AUD $82K difference.

LCT is about $20K of the difference.

              They pay 20% vat
we pay 10% GST, 5% duty and 3% stamp duty.

The LCT adds 33c to the price for every dollar the car is over 60K. So its significant for cars over 150K.

If parallel imports are supposed to reduce prices why are prices of Porsches in NZ equivalent to here? Flat 15% GST, no LCT and no Sales tax.

95% of lexus owners aren't the sort of guys who will order parts online, they will just cop the grief from the dealer. it'll be good for guys like you - if there was parallel importing then the values of the parallel cars would be cheap, making for bargains.

OK so either a 40 or 65K AUD savings on what is currently a very low GBP/AUD cross rate.
That's still a lot compared to the actual price of the car. Will only get cheaper when rates move our way.

These actually had a better towing capacity than the 5 door.

On launch, Toyota thought they would sell heaps to the grey nomads to tow vans etc. Well that is what they were saying
Their reasoning was that people did not need all that extra real estate in the back, as they would stick stuff in the van.

Obviously they forgot those nomads would need somewhere to stick the grand kids when they were home.

The video they made to launch these, almost had the models head taken off by the skid of the helicopter when it clipped the vehicle.
Idiot did not move when it came in because he wasn't told to react.

Mazda would also hate FJ Cruisers, stealing heaps of MX5 sales.

                              Fuck me!!!

Read further ... lifting of restrictions on grey imports for cars registered as classics or >25yo, removal of $12k import-duty on grey imports, no more special grey-import plate (just using VIN or chassis-number like a normal car) ... this is way bigger than just being able to buy a new C63 from the UK for $500 less than in Australia and with no warranty.
Feel a bit sorry for the guys who've made a living on grey import conversions ... but hey, surely they can be parts suppliers & maintenance experts now?

assuming it comes in in 2018 that will make it 1993 when it comes in. Better make sure if you have a GTR or similar and are planning to sell to get rid of it before the market gets flooded with cheat shit again.
