^ So that US$335 kit for a 6-71 which, say, you had on your 350 Chev in your HQ (and as I'm typing this I'm thinking The Nightrider may have been better-off fitting a blower before aftermarket injection tech from the 70's - but then The Nightrider didn't seem all that stable) ... what sort of money is that in today's dollars & as compared to what cars were worth when that ad was made?
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

If so, what is the best one for an N/A application in an e30?
      Fixed...

Get an alloy block gen4 5.3L in there instead. Much betterer.

Bare in mind the Nightrider stole the HQ which was an MFP pursuit special, ie the same as the black Falcon Max would be issued with later. The movie lore has it that the pursuit specials were supercharged and fuel injected V8s, In the Monaro's case it had an A9X reverse cowl scoop with and old style letterbox scoop ontop. I've seen photos of cars from the 70's with similar scoop setups.

Where is the go to for buying a selection of automotive fasteners? I just want a box of general sizes.

            What coatings are generally used?

You can get various bolt packs for for car restos from ebay and other places, and can get them in gold passivated, stainless etc.

              Stuff like https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/164095822185

Generally more expensive than just buying boxes of the individual bolts though, but a good way to get a starter pack.

Why would that be be than an LS1? I thought the main benefit of the gen4 was the rods, which aren't really a problem for NA.

I was wondering the same ... weight:capacity rules?
[Plus something that was actually sold here would also have to be a cheaper/easier choice?]

It's more important to me that it (the engine)is sold in Europe. Thats where the car is heading.

I bought a load of these

                        https://www.exafast.com.au/fasteners...erkits/exakit/

I was sick of driving to the local fastener place for half a dozen nuts and bolts at a time, or be a couple of drinks into a job and have to wait until the next day to finish it because I didn't have the fasteners needed. I think I spent about $300 all up but honestly it's paid for itself in saved time. They're probably chinesium but I haven't noticed any corrosion or had any problems with them.
