The same 997 Carrera S manual on three separate occasions...we have the same commute and often line up on a two lane hwy onramp.

I feel fairly calm about it, you OK tho?

Got my no pics one with 850km on it 4 weeks back, has ~3500km on it now and it is my daily. LOL. I reckon it feels a little slow vs my other cars I have had in the past, from all reports a reflash will fix that. But it is doing the job as is for now and got fark all time otherwise. Paid $46,800 for ours driveaway with 850kms on it ex Ford Exec with performance wheels.

997 Carrera S - 0-100 in 4.7 seconds. Given it's NA and allowing a bit for someone who's a bit slow on the shifts in a manual pretty much all the $60k hot hatches would challenge one - Focus RS, M140i and Golf R.

absolutely agree, manual ten year old former generation 997 driven by a numpty is definitely in the zone but certainly wouldn't be a "chop".

Also to get that 4.7 you have to really use the rear engine traction advantage by launching fuck out of it which is not something most owners are comfortable doing on city streets.

The current range of modern turbo hatches, especially when on the good rubber, are fucking fast

Other than being a convenient example of the breadth of abilities of modern hatches (and adding about 6 seconds of fun to my commute home) it's all rather missing the point - there are about a million things these cars (and a 997) do better than traffic light GPs.

i can only go by my former tuned 220@all four S3 and now 205@all four S4, i used to pull 2,3 sometimes 4 car lengths on the Focus RS's - i suspect mostly because the DSG is far too quick for manual shifters. my s3 would pull away from my mates 718 boxster S pdk but the boxster is marginally quicker than the S4.

                    edit: added boxster "S"

                      Cool story brah.
"Where can we get hold of a Vincent Black Shadow?" "Whats that?" "A fantastic bike," I said. "The new model is something like two thousand cubic inches, developing two hundred brake-horsepower at four thousand revolutions per minute on a magnesium frame with two styrofoam seats and a total curb weight of exactly two hundred pounds."

Ahh so this is like "who would win in a fight, a shark, a pteradactyl or ironman", and then we all take wild guesses at the result based on third hand anecdotes and pseudo logic

I think what we can say with confidence is that a faster car will beat a slower car in a drag race.

                        More to come

do they have enough of these sitting around for Ford to allow/encourage test drives?

can turn up in the R34 if it helps to look like a non tyre-kicker

                          (I am a tyre kicker)

They have stock piles of them sitting in their holding yards all over the country!

Doesn't matter what you rock up in, its only a 50k car, its $150 a week with a balloon payment... in summary you don't have to pretend to have money

sweet. will take one for a spin this weekend. the universal hype appears to be real.

just not getting the use out of the gtr these days so am looking at the next option, once you start looking there are LOTS of great cars around for very reasonable $.
