        Anyone know the key differences between the 2016 and the 2017 models? Was it just the audio system going from sync2 to sync3. I'm assuming no driveline, suspension or brake hardware changes.

          From memory SYNC 3 is the only difference, plus the late 2017 didnt have the factory blown headgasket.

                All good. Car in question turned out to be a very late 2016 build 2017 model so SYNC3. Headgasket has already been done.

                  Whats the difference between Sync2 and 3? Much of a muchness in the real world?

                    Apparently sync2 is worst than ebola (so I've read) and it's really worth looking for a car with sync3. I mean I just listen to News Radio most of the time and as long as phone is Bluetooth connected I don't care. So for probably not deal breaker.

                      You can replace the unit and put a sync3 in there... but since the RS is cheap as shit thanks to head gasket recall tanking the price and sales, it won't cost much to get in to one, regardless of the options / extras.

                            I have a 2015 Focus S for the missus that has SYNC 2 and we both like SYNC 3 in the RS more. SYNC 2 is "usable" but very slow, the GPS map updates at like 3fps, bluetooth works but is very slooow to connect, there are a few UI bugs. SYNC 3 isnt perfect either but leaps ahead of v2 and i would really go for a v3 given the choice.

                              Keen to see how these will depreciate over the next 6 months.. theyre already at the mid-40s with <10,000kms on them

                              Nopics wants another hot hatch to replace her XR5 this year.. and im pretty sure Ford will want $40+k for the new Focus ST, which makes the RS a viable option especially now that it wont be a daily / left at a train station each day

                              Although im still keen to see if she can reach the clutch pedal properly in a VF2 SS haha

                                After a bit of googling.. Sync3 setup to buy is $2200USD

                                Definitely worth just getting a later car
