Can't we like it while looking at ways to improve?

use the concrete barriers they already put on tuff st, and add some cyclone fence on top to protect the drunk fucks (keep them off the street), and let the entrants skid up a storm. Not everyone wants to blow a set of tyres and set fire to the rear bar in the burnout comp, most of us just want to do some skids

or better yet. ban the booze, and all the anti-social fucks that just want to get smashed and cause trouble will go away and everything will be great.

Me and a mate spent about 15 mins trying to figure out wtf it was there for and how it worked, and how there's 1000 ways of doing it better.

Public liability insurance for the event would be ginormous as it is.
"So Mr Lopez you have over 1000 cars averaging 600hp each with some over 1000hp mostly driven by under 25yo males with more ambition than talent doing burnouts just a few centimetres away from spectators which include woman and children...fine no worries, just bend over while we insert this rather large insurance premium in your arse"

People who reckon Summernats is shit are free to set up their own event, should be piss easy

Easternats was fucking great in this regards at Sandown - but the fact it was on a race track and the closest pedestrians were accredited media and behind the Armco/saftey barriers and then spectators at least 10m back from that - made it a lot easier in that respect..

Besides the dedicated Burnouts competition - every cruise session had the main straight split in two as you entered the straight - left lanes - cruising - right lanes - burnouts - the section was about 100-150m long and worked really well.......

2009 was the last Sandown actually.

And at Winton in 2011 and 2012 - they allowed the cruisers to peel off onto the proper burnout pad to do skids if they wanted to..
My point is - with the right saftey / set up - they could have skids all the time, so unless there is a stipulation that they are responsible for the repair of the roadwork after Summernats - hence they don't want a huge damage bill eating into their profits - then they might be able to do it.

(Part of the agreement of Easternats at Sandown was that the promotor had to pay to have the "burnout pad" repaired / resealed every year after the event as it was part of the main track and static burnouts used to damage the track big time)

It would be sweet if they had a specially designed area, connected to the cruise route, that they could use for it hey? Oh wait…

I think the biggest dickhead factor is the spectators. Was standing on tuff street watching a fuckwit throw squashed cans into the crowd and cars on tuff street. Notified security and all he got was "dont do it again", if that was an entrant he would be gone. More emphasis on spectators would allow the entrants to actually do a controlled skid without too much danger.

Why don't they just double concrete barrier a section say 100 metres long and they could have security between the barriers creating a buffer zone to control the dickheads who stand on the barriers etc.
Safer for the crowd and the security.

Yeah you are missing something. Big attraction at Summernats is skids on the cruise route. They gunna happen no matter what so it seems like it would be good if there was a safe way to make it happen instead of the weird, inconsistent balancing act between entrants/crowd/security.
