Still a horrible underpowered unreliable thirsty POS Rover engine ... LSx FTW.
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

Why? If you want something better than a P6b there is 5000 cars out there. 4.6 suits it well.

Because an n/a SR20 out of an N14 sounds better, an MGB engine is more reliable, you have to do an engine transplant anyway, and a 120Y engine has more power?

              No, not really.
4.6 is a POS, lucky if you even found one still running.
What do they put out ... 160kW? Shit, a 2.3L Volvo engine from 1979 puts out more than that.

Range Rovers of that era are shit & unreliable, this is overriding & undeniable fact; it makes the inaccuracy of claimed power figures somewhat irrelevant when you're sitting by the side of the road with steam pissing out of your broken pomengine.

My old man and his business partner both had early SD1 Rovers. Both were superbly reliable, despite us living at the end of 15klm of dirt corrugated road. I shit you not, good cars.
Window switches were about the only failure in 8 years of ownership of both.
Dad was so impressed, he bought another Rover, a 416i...... Now, when was the last time you saw one of them?!

Used to haunt the auctions in the late 80's, and was often surprised with how often they'd have a really neat-looking Vitesse go through; there weren't that many on the road; but the electricals were pretty much always rooted when you switched them on, random shit flashing or not working.

416i was amusing, it was like a caveman got drunk & drew an Integra. I know it was supposed to be the same, not 99% the same, but whatever shortcuts they took in materials or assembly or whatever resulted in things not quite fitting as well somehow.
Maybe they were putting 100k km on each 416i after it rolled off the production line, just to be sure it was reliable?

By observing electrical faults in some 70s/80s cars, you've concluded that an engine made from 1995-2002 is a nugget? Best stick to your Ecomoo area of expertise I think.

No, by observing the impressive lack of reliability in those specific model Range Rovers, I've concluded that fixing the problems in some 70's/80's cars by using that nugget of an engine is a particularly pointless thing to do when there are decent alternatives available.

Can rebuild the battery packs in them if you want. The WDS will eventually stop working if the battery dies completely.
Late reply the battery is half alive but this old beast lives in the dock.
