Mate and I did a job to remove the wrap off a VW Caddy... full wrap of 3M film that had gone "off".

Two guys, 16 hours - it came off in 5mm chips after chemical soaking and abuse with scrapers.

    Also stained the (white) paint

      Now you're scaring me!

The reason I'm considering it is because a car I have in mind for a Group C replica would be easier & possibly look better using a wrap rather than painting.

Has anyone delt with Sydney West Smash Repair in Western Sydney?

Gave a reasonable quote of $8K full respray (Door Jams & Engine Bay)

Walk through the premises, they looked pretty good, seeing if there is any examples out there of their work.

Just got the paint quote back from the painter for a customers MG.
It's already in tinted primer, ready to be sanded, masked & painted.
Colour is PPG Mazda Soul Crystal Red.

            $14k

A mate of mine has just gone through the dramas of getting his XY Fairmont rust repaired and painted, 2 painters and 30K later the car looks fine but it was a fraught process......

There is 2 shopping trolley dints but thats about it. Shell is in great condition,no rust, straight as.

Outside of the one above I was quoted between $10-$12K. Cheapest I found was $4K (Holylea Road)

The guy was pretty good, happy to involve me in the process, eg before each stage I come and have a look to make sure Im happy to proceed with the next stage.

Looked at a few of the cars they had at the shop before hand, they looked fine and went through the shop and looked like the ones charging me $12K.

Forgot to mention I'm taking every piece off the car though so its just a rolling shell going into the shop.

How much should I be budgeting to finish the Valiant in the original off white, which is all repaired and in 2 pack primer?

                    I have literally no idea.

I was thinking that Mazda red was the perfect colour for the XM but just googled a bit about the process. I can see why it’s $14k to paint now.

A few hundred for the paint, and the rest of the cost for the labour would be my guess.....

I'm too scared to ask what the charger paint job costs me as on top of the base coast in black I have the striping done in satin and then clear over the lot. There is a lot of sanding involved which costs a lot as it is all labour.

I would hazard a guess of any where from a couple of thousand up to !0k depending on what the final job will be.

That was actually how I did it the first time - 5 cans at $2/can.

$2-10k was my guess as well! I figured $5k for something decent.

Whats a reasonable price to respray a modern car the same color it already is? I.e. new-ish car getting a respray because its a bit tired

isn't that what happens when shit vinyl gets old? and the glue starts reacting with UV

does he have a receipt to say that it was 3M film that was applied? sounds like it was left on there far too long as well.
