What is the least boring family car?

    Hi

Need a second car in a few months or so. ~$15k.

    Key duties include:
    - wife driving it to work (when she goes back next year, 2/3 days a week) & to the shops/parents house/cafe/pilates
    - carrying a small child and associated detritus with ease
    - not costing me much money (in fuel & maintenance)
    - not disintegrating in the event of an accident
    - not making me want to kill myself if I drive it
    - not making wife look like (direct quote) "a 40 year old wearing mum jeans" \_(ツ)_/

She would prefer a wagon over a sedan and I like cool wagons so this works. Used is ok, but new-ish (<5yr & 60k). A gay SUV like a Tiguan/CX3 would tick most of those boxes but make me feel uncomfortable about who I had become as a person.

Carsales tells me these things (Volvo S60/V60) might be doable ($20k ask...surely cunts would be getting between 15-20 for em). What are they like? Any other thoughts? Wife has given them the tick of approval despite the mum jeans comment

JZS171 crown athlete wagon? fits your budget. is fun to drive (vvti 1J) good on fuel and reliable (again - vvti 1J), fairly modern, practical and has all the creature comforts you need. plus it isnt a fucking volvo

more than 5yrs old i guess but... meh?

If you/your wife can see past the badge, a VEII or VF SV6 or Calais wagon would tick those boxes. Maybe a little boring to drive but then that's this whole category. SS much better but incompatible with running costs criteria.

More left field alternative: Alfa 159 wagon?

Or perhaps, Mazda 6 wagon? Probably a good middle ground choice.

Megane GT220. Mid-high $20's for demo k's, would surely be under $20k once someone decides to sell on the private market.

Octavia RS on the radar for sure. 159TI is too.

Falcadores are too big & Passat/6 is just too farken boring.

                No imports

159 would be top of the pack.

Saab 93 aero with the 2.8 turbo 6 might be fun in a sleeper kind of way.

Came here to post this. Good crash scores, based on very tried engine/gearbag combo detuned, has good driving dynamics and isn't completely shit.

Oldest in Australia is three years old (rego'd mid-June 2013 with April 13 build date).

Mid-2014 facelift cars have warranty to 2019 (ie 5 years) minimum - whereas the early numbered build cars are 3 year warranty.

Good shout. I always wanted a 265 & absolutely love the way they drive so could be a goer. Shall investigate.
