    opinions on suzuki swift gti

    Hello,
Im considering buying a second generation suzuki swift gti as a daily driver(so i can tinker with the turbs). Just wondering if some owners could give me their opinions about them,
-how well do they go with a few mods?
-are they roomy enough for a tall person(6foot1) to fit in comfortably?
    -how reliable?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

used to own one mate, not a bad little run about, pretty reliable to. only problem i had were cv's went after about 120 000km. can get a nice 95-96 model for around 8-9 grand these days. you shouldnt have a problem with comfort at all as the seats are great and heaps of head room, just dont sit in the back.

My mate had one of these and it was a great car.
Didn't have any major probs, and we gave it a beating!!!
My mate had extractors and rampod air-filter and sports exhaust and that gave it about 10-20percent more power. It went really well, took most non-turbo cars down and its only a 1.3litre!! :D

As '13secmini' said you could pick up a 95 for around 8grand, or you could get around a 90model for 5 or so even come with mags and a few mods.

Also im over 6ft and there is heapz of room in the front for two big blokes and you can fit one in the back if you try hard enough

        Thanks for the replys fellas!
I need a small car as a daily driver, however i still want something that has a bit of power. i intend to spend about 6-7 grand so an early 90's model should be the go. exhaust, extractors and air filter are probabily the only mods i would do.
        Definetly swinging towards one!

one more silly question: would a gti (with exhaust, extractors, filter) keep up with a vs commo from the lights? just to settle a bit of a argument me and a mate are having.
        Cheers!

It really depends on what stickers you have on it and how many neon's are switched on at the time!!! :D

i doubt it would cause my mates had a run (gti v 91celica) and the celica just won
the celica was stock, so a commy being 3.8L, id say you would not be in luck of winning

my gf has a 92' gti with just pod filter, exhaust and extractors. she beat a stock vn pretty convincingly, but the drag was only up to like 80 or 90. her gti would beat my vlt by heaps off the line and through her first gear. would actually pull away for the first few secs.
Have you ever schpunkt from it?

I spanked the crap out of a GTi in my old MPI EA, I used to be able to to launch that thing off the line pretty quick which was strange for an EA. Pissed off a yuppy pretty good when his IS200 got smoked also:D

10-20% more power, not gonna happen.

                  Perhaps 1-2kw.

The Cooper 'S' used to keep up with stock 5.0L VN's (yeah, it was worked) and one day we had a Swift GTi keep up with us... Met him at a later date in the other mini (turbo swift GTi powered) and tore him a new asshole, got talking to him and discovered his swift had a set of extractors, sports exhaust, CAI with a pod and a couple of other little things... This was the early shape so it was a lot lighter also.
                    I got nothing

                        Yeah almost, but not quite.
                        10% * 74kw = 7.4kw, 20% * 74kw = 14.8kw

i mate of mine had one of these and it had extractors, 2 1/4" exhast, rush airfilter, heavy duty clutch and he could beat 3.8L VS commo's by a decent amount.
only probs he had was gearboxs kept smashing. (i think that might of been because of the 6000rpm launches and H/D clutch.)
