    OT-Adding Music to video

Ok guys, i finally got around to getting a video camera, and have shot some footage of all sorts of sh*t, but now i wanted to edit it all together with music over the top of it all, so how would i go about this??

Is it possible to record all of the visuals onto a video tape in the order that i want, and then go back and just record music over the audio part from a CD player connected to the video??

Yeah you can do that, but you'll loose whatever audio was with the original footage, and end up with only the CD audio. If you got a digital video camera I'd strongly suggest you have a look at investing in a firewire capture card. I picked mine up for about $100 and it captures full res video (takes up HEAPS of HD space though ). Hunt around for a package deal that comes with some editing software. That way you can keep your orignal audio and use the CD audio as a quieter background music, and also add effects, more precise cutting etc Good luck.

thanks for the info guys, i'll check it out

shauno, it is a digital video camera, but i don't think my computer would really handle video editing cause its only a pentium 400, with a pissy 8gig HDD, i'm gonna upgrade it, but need the $$$

so is what i said right, could i record all of the visuals onto the video tape, then simply plug in the audio cables from a cd player, into the audio inputs only? (leaving the video inputs unplugged). if i do this will it tape over the video with just a blank screen cause there is no video inputs anymore, or will it simply record the audio???

yeah - actually you're right, sorry about that. I think the last time I did something like this (about 4 years ago) I had two VCRs and the CD player hooked up. The VCR recorded the "edited" video from the other VCR and the audio from the CD player. It came out OK, but it took a few goes to get it synced right. Hope you've got 2 VCRs
