    Interest in a GSR/info!!

Please state some info about 91-96 Lancer GSR Turbo's!!
    What is the Performance like?
    Any Common Problems?
    Price Range between GSR/EVO?
    Comparison on the 1.8 turbo/2.0 turbo? e.t.c

Any opinions about these cars would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks Guys.

Performance is good, but cars have gotten a lot faster since the GSR was produced. 96 Commodores are a piece of cake, but 2002 ones are getting tough to beat

Package is pretty strong - gearbox especially unlike older WRXs. The major problem with the 4g93 engine is the lifters. They last about 80,000ks and are about $1000 to fix. Also the internals are not particularly strong, and won't appreciate being boosted beyond 14psi. Rear shocks often go because of the amount it squats when being launched hard as it has so much grip.

Its not balltearingly quick, but a decent exhaust, FMIC, ECU & a bit of boost will make a huge difference. There are quite a few running in the 12s.

Bog stock they look a bit average by 2002 standards, but chuck an EVO bar on, dump it with some 17s & they look great.

Not many people know about them, so there is a sleeper element, but not amongst people who know their cars.

I would prefer the gears to be a little taller, but the ratios are nice in the twisties. In winter I live at Mt Buller and have immense pleasure heading up the road. Windy roads are where you will derive the most enjoyment - unmodded it isn't much of a traffic light dragger. Not that it stops me!

Price ranges from about $15k for a thrashed example to over $20k for highly modded/mint. Around $18k will get you a nice car.

Haven't had any experience with an EVO or a 2 litre conversion so can't help you there.

        Thanks for that guys!

Yep, defitnetly need the evo kit on it!
There are some nice ones going around but they are prity rare.
I may be spending in the low 20's, so i should find a fairly nice one for that amount.
I would rather a GSR than a WRX.

Does anyone know the differences ranging from the 91-95 models?? any options changed e.t.c

IMHO 2L are the only way to go...they produce so much more power and torque then the 1.8

and once you have driven one its hard to go back

there was a series 1 and 2 gsr

there was about 4kw difference between them
          different seat trims
          s1 has a boost light
          different steering wheel

I believe there was a minor update around 93/94.

2 more kw, different wheel & interior.

There is a retro review in the 2000 Motor BFYB edition. Looks different to mine (94) inside. Chase up the review if you can, has lots of nice things to say about the car.

You will need to do a little work if you want to beat a stock rex, but not much. If your price range is low 20's, you could find something that already has all the stuff on it.

For peace of mind though I would buy something stock & mod it yourself.

the gsr_evo yahoo group has great info, although its also a bit of a chatroom so you have to wade through a lot of crap.

They are rare, but not that rare. I check the Net & tradinf post every now and then, there are always about 6 or 8 going around.
