I would avoid coilovers if at all possible. It will compromise the ride quality too much for the type of car this is. Pedders have a lowered spring and could probably supply you with various brands of shocks that would provide a more sporty ride. If you're not in a hurry you could look at the various products and packaged Racing Beat offer. Automotive Plus is an agent for them but Mazcare may be able to source them too.

cheers, yeah all i want is shocks and springs to replace the originals that are still on there.
local fulcrum shop can only get KYB shocks (don't know anything about them) and king springs, will call mazcare in the morning.

          KYBs are fine.

I've used them a lot over the years in street cars.

Yeh KYB's were always good, had them in an RX2. Everyone used to run them in various early Mazdas as they were one of the only cheap 'sport' shocks you could buy to suit. King springs would be fine also.

There is some story in IPRA circles of the Pedders lowered springs (think they only do one height) being a decent spring rate for a racing. I actually have a pair in the back of my RX7 at the moment but I feel they are too tall for a race car. Will cross that bridge later.

Good to see you enjoying it. If you ever want to run semis you need the skinnier coilovers to lay the front struts over with camber plates(I have seem people with bent struts to achieve the same), unless you push out the lower arms, but that will impact steering more.

I have a much rougher but matching numbers s3 i don't have space/time/money to deal with if any of you are keen.

update: first proper pic taken of it

exhaust is now way nicer, smoother, and makes a bit more torque

took it up mt nebo. survived. hilarious fun at the speed limit, feels like you are going way faster. underpowered, but enough hp and rpm to have fun.
steering is good but can still tell it's a steering box, will just live with it.

I saw this in the school carpark last week. Couldn't help parking next to it. Was mint! Let me know when next Nebo run is on.

That is almost too nice to believe. I have a strange unexplained love for these, which I think stems from being a child and seeing a nice red one in a book. Really want to get on the boat before they are inevitably worth properly good money.

EDIT: Seems appropriate to move this to the PF Street Cars section

That s1 is badass! It belongs in a museum, not on the road :p
                          now with extra gearbox'y goodness

                            Sold mine.

They are fun to throw around and you don't have to be going heaps fast.

Braided lines improved the pedal feel a lot in mine.

I can't recommend the "guru" lsds that were made by modena motorsport for these enough, don't know its there when putting around but tighten up heaps better than factory torsen in an fd. They don't make them new anymore, worth keeping an eye on ausrotary.

Did you go to auto weight and billet flywheel? That makes s big difference too.

yeah that's partly why i pulled the trigger.. not many cheap ways to get into a rotary these days.

                              ah fair enough.
didn't do the flywheel at this time, driving it around stock for now. next time clutch needs to come out, i'll do it; now that i have a reference point.

driving this down to WTAC in october for a road trip.
