Re: price, the market is weird but I figure I'll chuck it on Aus rotary for 25k. Pf blokes can have it for 21 as that covers my costs for the work done

And apparently they started a crowd funding to fix it. I haven’t seen the episode or the situation but the must be some interesting circumstances to justify fixing it over the thousands of other beautiful cars written off hooning

Firstly the owner of the RX2 is Abel Ibarra - one of the pioneers of rotary and Sport Compact drag racing. Secondly he and his family also have a large collection of old Mazda's with the RX2 Coupe in question being one of their most significant. It was his pride and joy being a largely original car body/paint/interior wise but repowered with a 13B turbo engine and a host of other supporting/chassis mods. Obviously Abel himself wouldn't expect anyone to give him money to repair the car but from what I can tell it owes him a lot and he is not in the financial position to fix it any time soon. The glory days of big money sponsorship and racing across the country are largely over and he has a family and business to support. Lastly I think the general opinion of the show being fairly shit and the race sequence itself also being shit coupled with the notoriety/nauseating ego of the car and driver that crashed into him (the White Zombie electric-powered Datsun 1200) has led to the outpouring of sympathy directed Abel's way. Of course this is not to say that Abel didn't know the risks and was an unwitting participant.

Ok just watched it. I saw a bunch of Americans in a drag race fail and crash. One of those people was the RX2 owner and he wasn’t at fault. It sucks a rare car got a bit of panel damage but still lost as fuck as to why it’s any different to anyone else who crashed their car

It's not any different really. The Vintage Japanese Motor Union is a bit of a thing in California and I think they are just really passionate about helping Abel out thus starting the GoFundMe.
