Yeah it'll be the oil seals which will be Bodgy[emoji573] send it and see what happens... worse comes to worse you'll have to drop that 20b in as people have suggested.

price check on series 3 RX7?

Have you done a comp test on it? Don't know how coolant seals will cause it to smoke as above...more likely just oil control rings. These old 12As often went well past the 200k mark if looked after. Age will be it's biggest downfall. Those water galleries will be corroded to fuck. If it's never been rebuilt I'd be surprised if it lasts long without chewing coolant, dropping comp etc. At least being a runner you will still have good rotating assembly, good end plates, matching rotors etc. for rebuild. Congrats on the purchase. PM me if you want my engine builders number...very honest and legit guy.

it did blow some smoke the second time i started it up.
Waiting on coolant pipes to refit all of the cooling system and then will see if it moves under it's own power (and stops).
clutch master cylinder may need some work on top of the brakes.
the pop up headlights make me unreasonably happy lol
This deserves being on the next page. That is in sensational condition. Bravo!

haven't done comp test or anything wanted to see if it starts on it's own first.
water galleries are pretty gross, have done my best to flush it out at home.

I see it's already left it's mark on the garage floor. :D

Phil's Rotorys in Brendale is closing down at the moment mate, would be a great time to get in and raid whatever stocks they have for these things.

this is fantastic, top effort finding it and getting it back to its former glory, i only just got my license when these things had bottomed out in value and were everywhere... now this!

i cobbled the cooling system back together to see if it can move under it's own power and.. yes! it stops pretty well too (still need to flush brake fluid though).
cooling system has some work to do (the bottom radiator hose, when it came off the car, took half the fitting off where it connects to the block. have used a top radiator hose as an interim solution since a lower one no longer reaches the reduced length fitting).
Mazcare has used a lot of my original hoses and lines to make up templates to help other people in the same boat as me, which is cool.
Filled up the coolant and ran it for a few minutes and the temperature stayed on the 1/4 mark on the gauge, no gas bubbles in the coolant, no steam out the exhaust. win.
Going to put some sort of coolant flush product in there and drain it all again in a day or two.
felt good to drive it out of the shed and give it a proper wash
the rego sticker reads 2008 lol.

This is obviously assuming all your AUX outputs are doing something. Ie idle control, and the other does water spray, and the other updates your Instagram automatically etc.

everything seems to work ok, idle hiccups occasionally but is otherwise smooth.
things to do for roadworthy will be new tyres (these are 8 years old and hard), reconnect heater matrix (though the ventilation seems to work fine), and maybe remove the air pump since it might be a red flag that it's not doing anything.

alternatively, if anyone has a sympathetic mobile roadworthy guy that would be great, then i can just drive it 5 min down the road to get the tyres done and bushings replaced. After that will likely take it down to mazcare and have them run over it and make sure it's all good.

Getting closer! Mazcare can organise a roadworthy. I'm sure it will be sympathetic to the car's age however it's in great condition overall anyway, shouldn't be a worry.
