Mate bought new Mini Cooper S electric thingo.

I like the Minis he has (JCW Cup Edition and Cooper Checkmate) and this is as nice.

My first impressions of ever being in an electric car. Rapid thing, as a lover of low end torque its a dream, quiet, nothing I don't like about electric cars so far. Down side is price and 200km range, but that's a week and a half of driving for him.

Price comes down and I get a 300C worth of spec, then yeah, if I have the coin I'm in.

Lucky for you. Cunts have put it up to 52c/KWh. Luckily I'll be charging mostly from work for free and occasionally from home, may not even need a home charger. I'll see how I go for the first month.

Crate electric drivetrains are a thing now
BTCC engine builder Swindon Powertrains announces electric crate motor

You won’t have heard of Swindon Powertrains, but the relatively little company (which has been building road and race engines and components since the Seventies, and today supplies many BTCC teams with engines) may be about to make big waves with its ‘HPD’ EV powertrain.

Much in the same way you can buy ‘crate’ V8s from Ford, GM and so-on for installation in whatever you fancy, the HPD is a crate electric powertrain that weighs only 70kg. It’s so small that the 107bhp motor, inverter, single-speed transmission and cooling system assembly all fit under the bonnet of an old Mini, or even in a quad bike.

Swindon says it aims to have the turn-key unit in production by June 2020, that it ought to “fit a range of vehicles from sports cars through to commercial vehicles,” and that “waterproofing options make it suitable off-road leisure and recreation vehicles” too.

The idea is that the system will make it easier and cheaper for specialist OEMs (think Caterham, Westfield, Morgan and so-on) to electrify their cars. The HPD, which will be available in low volumes to suit said companies, can also be retro-fitted to classic cars, and could even be used as a component in a hybrid drivetrain.

I’m a dumb poor cunt so I’m now driving a leaf 2019 40kw/h model

cant help but think though the way they are packaged would be great for a standard car FWD conversion

pop the bonnet and the leaf look like it has a petrol engine in there, so it’d be easily packaged into any small medium FWD car, mines only the 110kw version, but the Leaf plus I hear goes quite well that has 150kw

That funny space under the rear seats and under the boot in the rear subframe (cos there's no muffler there anymore), hell, even the rear 'door' pockets, under the front seats.... actually it'd be a bloody good thing, gets rid of the antiquated A series and 4 spd box, all that noise and smell and leaves you with a lightweight torque monster.

Don't want to get rid of the smell of nostalgia... But would be brilliant.

Also, if you can find a big enough motor... Range rover. Unfortunately at 2.7 tonnes it'd be hard to move, but stacks of space for batteries!
