It’s in a Netflix series mentioned in the TV Shows thread, Fastest Car ... the nopix came home when he was talking about the power, I thought I’d misheard him saying it had over 1000hp. But given it was up against a modded Ford GT in a men-wearing-women’s-clothing race, it’d have to have some serious grunt (hard to believe it can get traction though).
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

Funnily enough in some videos where they interview the guy who built it he admits he hasn't put R spec tyres on it for the very reason that if you had too much traction you would destroy the drivetrain. Basically he is using the tyres as the weakest link.
I was trying to convince nopics we needed one of these:
Although I "accidently" used this as the example:
But holy fuck it would be pricey, one of the FB groups I'm on had a really nice '08 GMC like the top one that was converted to 4wd. Bloke wanted USD$50k for it!
^ My Nimitz-class will still smash you in the school car-park.
*edit*
Unless you’re packing Mr T of course, he might defeat my Nimitz.

I'm in Perth for a week for sport and I've brought the family with me, our rental car is an ASX. Are they classified as a small SUV or a mid size?
I'm finding it less useful as a family car than our mid size sedan at home. The back seat is smaller and the boot is about half as deep. The only thing I've found easier is the boot is a good height to change the kid's nappy while we're on the go.
Price wise they're about on par so I guess they're competitors in that sense.
Edit: I also wanted to add that the CVT in this ASX is like syphilis in transmission form.
I'm sure the Range Rover Evoque being bigger and clearly heavier than the ground itself was a factor in it's apparent safety. A small hatchback would have had no chance.

Not sure how it's classed, but it's definitely a small one; I think anyone buying one would consider it small. It's certainly got less room than the ?12yo? Lancer it's based on.

Couldn’t bring myself to get a SUV thing as the times I will drive it with no one on board, manoeuvring it at the shops and so on makes them even more hateful. Went for the Subaru wagon. Perfect family truckster but still no fun on the kid free days.
Turns out, far too much has been written about great men and not nearly enough about morons

3 kids (currently 5, 6, and 8) and have an Outback as the family hauler. Big enough when we go away on holidays (but only just when we had prams & port-a-cots) and fit 3 baby seats across the back. Higher than a standard wagon, but not as high as most SUVs which I found helped when lifting kids in/out. However, as the kids get bigger and the arguments about lack of room get more frequent I'm thinking a 7 seater will be the next purchase. Every SUV 7 seater I've looked at is compromised in both 3rd row space and boot space with 3rd row up. I don’t see much point in having a vehicle that can carry 7 people but not any of their stuff, so I'm leaning towards giving up on life completely and getting a Kia Carnival.
I'm trying to convince my nopics something like a fast wagon would be an infinitely better choice and something like a Skoda RS 2** whatever it is would be a decent choice (she calls out resale, I have to kind of agree but still reckon their a good thing).
Haven't had a chance to suggest the Odyssey but I kinda like them (I liked the older ones more) although they are spec'd as well as the VW in terms of the little things like interior comforts etc (dual zone lighting, dual zone a/c, movable interior etc) The chairs in the back look pretty fucking pimp though.

SUV = "given up on life".
Carnival = "my other car is a 911 GT3".

Yeah, we have always thought that if we go back to 2 proper cars (as opposed to a club reg track hack) then mine would be a fast wagon. Always wanted a 34GTR swapped Stagea, or a Gen4 Liberty wagon for cheap fasts while being able to strap kids in the back.
Still doesnt make sense for our use case though, but definitely more sense than the MX5.
