Still doesnt make sense for our use case though, but definitely more sense than the MX5.
You mean a 260rs? Cool cars but you watch the fuel gauge drop on any amount of boost.

Nah, just a RB25NEO with a R34 GTR facelift. Cant stand the stock front on the Stageas.

You don’t need one but it is nice not having to bend over to take kids in and out of child seats.
That’s about the only benefit I can think of. I couldn’t talk her into a wagon or sedan, she very specifically wanted a SUV.

I haven’t driven a lot of SUVs but my wife’s X3 actually handles really well. I flog it whenever I drive it without the family in the car.

If I was sticking with a wagon for family duties the Skoda Superb 206 would be at the top of my list, with the Octavia a close second.

I've consoled myself by deciding that if we get a Carnival our second car will need to be small and fun, something like a Fiesta ST, Polo GTI or Clio RS. Far from a GT3, but definitely the same rationale.

If you plot the Carnival, the Fiesta ST & the GT3 on a fun-o-meter graph; in order to be able to view them all on the same A2 piece of paper, the scale has to be enlarged so much that the GT3 and the ST are basically in the same place & hence are the same as each other ... :D

Was that using linear or log scales???

Logs aren't scaly, you silly man.

(but I think spanning that gap is beyond the powers of mere human-spec differential calculus)

Ugh, so dont get this size of car. I understand the impetus towards a full size SUV like the Kluger or Everest size. But CX3/5/Kuga/Edge/whatever, blergh.

CX5 had no more useable space than our Focus, and handled far worse.

I had a 260RS for 8 years and sold it for an R32 GTR. I miss the 260RS about 2 times a year when we go camping and I have to find some other way to carry my gear. The 260 was a great car, but the GTR is so much better and the kids don’t care either way. Fuck SUVs I say, buy something you enjoy. If you think you need the space for camping or hauling distant family members once in a blue moon then hire a car or borrow one. That’s the conclusion we came up with 2 years ago. Yet to hire a car....

We have a 2017 Rav4, its a decent car to drive every day but is obviously very boring. My wife likes it cause its easy to get the kids in, she sits up high and I'm sure she feels good at school pick up amongst all the other mums. Also good when we take a trip to bunnings or buy heaps of shit at the shops as the boot is huge. Compared to a CX5, X-Trail which we also looked at the rav4 was better for us.
We also have a 2012 Corolla, which I drive to the train. Again boring as but at least its manual. I need to get off my arse and sell this as once we di we are getting an 86. I'll use it predominately but we'll probably also use it on the weekend when we go for drives and shit...looking forward to getting it!
I survived the patio flooding catastrophe of 2012.

These two pictures about sum up my equal part amusement and vexation at suvs/some of the owners.

Exhibit a. Road works out the front of work. People complaining. So what's cafe owner in the bmw x3 who's complained about it himself and tells people to park out the back, blocking our spots, do? Parks, literally, in the middle of the road. Spaces behind and just around the corner but fuck that extra 20m walk.

Bonus lols for the shit parked fat arse not at all mini that's almost as big as an x3.

Exhibit b. I like the new patrols. Cool cars. Hard to see but there's a sea shepherd sticker on the window. Irony apparently lost on conservation hero needing to tell people what an environmentally sensitive sort he/she is by putting said sticker on 3t 5.6l behemoth. A car that I've seen a few times, blocking our parks, with not a fleck of dirt indicating it heads off road.

Cliffs, there's enough deadshits on the road, if you're gunna get a visibility and road blocking you for reals need it suv, don't be a cunt with it. Applies to everyone, sure, but moreso when your car is usually bigger in every way.

How do you know said Patrol driver isnt just against the hunting of whales, a cause which has no bearing on the type of car they should be driving according to you?

From experience, most people with Sea Shepherd stickers drive like massive wankers.

I think they’re fans of Sea Shepherds control of large boats rather than their actual environmental credentials.

You’ve nailed the problem though, people driving like inconsiderate wankers in 3t trucks look worse than them driving a Yaris.
