Ok, a very simple question for all of you obvious Touring Car experts ..............

Where, anywhere in the world did they race a Group A GT-R in 1993?

Another interesting fact re Banning cars from competing.

Did you know that Larry Perkins was refused entry for the Japanese Fuji 500km race in 1992.

Sounds like those Japs were worried about a bit of low tech push rod Aussie iron showing them up to me

the whole series is run by avesco

avesco is an anacronym for australian vee eight supercar company

now, i seem to have a little bit of trouble here

how could a japanese straight six twin turbo supercar compete in an avesco competition?

the rules didnt change, the whole competition did.. they decided having a heap of JDM cars compete in an australian competition wouldnt make for good entertainment.. and if you want to argue that you're pushing shit uphill.. v8supercars is the fourth most popular sport in australia.

i wish you'd all get over your gtr banning fetishes.. sure, a gtr is better than a commo.. and a mclaren f1 is better than a gtr, and a nasa space shuttle is better again.. someone always has a bigger cock than you, get over it.

Umm I think you missed it, but the whole thread (after Pauly's initial post) has been a bit tongue in cheek...

              Yeah.

I wish we were going to Candy Apple Island!

              Why? What's there?

              Apes... but they are nicer.

isnt it amazing how everytime they talk about V8 super taxis the GTR shit fight starts.
i love my nissans and loved it when they were kicking arse but the racing is much more exciting when the V8s go around except when Mark Chaff wins

on another note. whats the go with bargwanna winning the round. 1st and 5th to loundes 2nd and 3rd. how does that work???
3 broken mitsubishi's (fuck im stupid)

they were equal on points and its went back to the fact that bargs finished better then the second race

Well done to Bargs and the whole Gary Rogers Raceteam they did a top job and its good to see em back to where they belong after a tough year

oh yeah and how bout everyone just get over the whole GTR shit that was in the past get over it and move on

Yes, but it was always predictable .......... unfortunately.

Pity about the rain yesterday (getting back to the original topic), although I hope the farmers appreciated it (how many farms are there on the Gold Coast??????)

I always said the best form of drought releif is to stage an international motor race in the worst effected areas, because it is bound to rain!

Gee I thought all of the touring car experts in here would have answered this by know with their obvious superior knowledge of the sport.

Anyway, the only place a GT-R competed under Group A (sort of) rules in 1993 was in Japan.

At the end of '92 the English went to 2-litre Super Tourers along with most other countries, the Germans went with thier own formula and Australia went 5-litre (including the 2.5 litre BMW's) as well as starting an official 2-litre Touring Car Championship (later to become the Super Touring Championship).

From '94-'98, the Japanese Touring Car Championship became a 2.0 litre Supertouring (sedan only) Championship aslo, eg they BANNED GT-R's from competing in their own countries championship

The fact is it would have ben near on impossible to continue with racing as it was (Group A) in this country as no manufacturers were going to build high performance road variants to be homologated to be raced anymore.

Manufacturers also were not interested in supporting the championship, but like Nissan only wanted to field one team and were not interested in supplying anyone else with financial or technical help to race their brand.

The 2-litre championship (in Australia) had a good go at getting support, but gradually it became obvious that it was not what the majority of people wanted to see. The costs were very high, manufacturer support was dying, and crowds became so small that circuit promotors began to have second thoughts about hosting rounds.

Racing is a business, not a hobby, and the cruel facts are that if you don't get strong manufacturer support, have cars which are affordable, as well as providing a championship which will bring paying fans to the track it will fail. And like it or not the current series has achieved most of these objectives fairly well.

But please guys, GET OVER this "they banned the GT-R" crap because it is, in the way you guy's are refering to it, not true.

I absolutely love the V8 Supercars.

If people reckon they are shit then that is their opinion, but after yesterday at Indy you'd be stupid not to agree that they are a good category!!
They raced in the rain and there was no major incidents, no drivers whinging about the conditions, etc. They just got out there and done their jobs!
At Bathurst the last two years they have raced in rain, storms, hail.... you name it..... and no problems.

A little bit of rain yesterday and the Indy drivers pulled up their skirts and all wanted to head home!! Sure the conditions were atrocious and the start line crash was pretty serious, but a good driver will drive to the conditions and still come out on top!

Wattsy: umm yeah ok The rain for the Champ cars was alittle more severe than that of the V8 Supercars, Champ car drivers are also 2 feet lower, have no windscreen with luxury wipers and other nice drivers with covered up rear wheels. So please pull your head in, they thought it was too dangerous, hell even someone spun on the yellow. They would have became boats out there. I had to take a paddle to walk to the buses after.
