The XR utes have industrial leaf springs whilst the Holden has IRS...the XR utes carry 550kg while the Holden will take about 100kg MORE than that!!
Dude, I haven't read the load figures, but I'd be inclined to say that is BULLSHIT-coil spring utes have always been lower in load capacity, and the au ute , and xg,xh before all had a FAR greater load capacity than the holden ute (like 250-350kg difference) . Doesn't matter really, whose going to put 650kg in an ss ute anyway?
Personally, I'd buy the xr8 especially if you plan to do wheels, lower it etc-the holden is so high in the back because as soon as it goes any lower the load ability disappears. Commodore utes are good cars, but shitbox utes.
    cheers,

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe, and from this side only! The flight of a half-man, half-bird. Dinosaurs nuzzling their young in pastures where strip-malls should be. Cookies on dowels. All those moments lost in time; gone like eggs off a hooker's stomach. Time to die.

Quick step aside it beat XR by about a tenth of a second over the quater.Dont forget that not like SS XR6 is faster in automatic.More to a car than straight line and both Motor and Wheels chose XR6 easily. Not bad considering XR8 compares to the SS and not the XR6 which is 6 grand cheaper.Spend 2 grand on XR6 and see where SS is all whilst keeping 4 grand in your pocket.:p

The Holden SS ute maybe 'rated' to take more than the XR8 ute, but I wonder how long those 18in tyres will last when driving with any kind of weight in the SS....

If your looking for the top of the line Ute, it would be between the Maloo and XR8 Pursuit Ute.

          HSV Maloo
          260kw/475Nm

          XR8 Pursuit
          290Kw/520Nm

'Base' XR8 and the Pursuit model wont be released till early next year though.

Where did you get those figures from? www.eauto.com.au has:

            XR6t ute:
            Kerb mass (kg) 1755
Payload (GVM-kerb mass in kg) 590

            VY SS ute:
            Kerb mass (kg) 1613
Payload (GVM-kerb mass in kg) 665

Either way, the SS seems better on paper, just - would be interesting to see a comparison of the two though, especially since the mags think the XR6t is much better overall in the sedan versions.

I agree with everyone else though - you don't see many of these things carrying stuff around!

Yeah, i'm a carpenter and there is no way i'm going to spend 40k + on a ute, and then throw my tools and whatever in the back of it.

Every tradesman that I know or have seen that has one of them, always has a trailer to carry everything.

the ford utes keep reminding me of r34 skylines. they like nice though. but i havent seen any around, maybe cos im in adelaide, but there seems to be a crap load os new commodores compared to fords on teh road even though the ford looks the goods.
everytime you masterbate god kills a skyline.

would the tray be long enough to fit a couple of motor cross bikes in with the tailgate shut?

ls1edit for the pcm, finally there is a bit of aftermarket stuff being developed local, cams, valvetrain components, cranks etc.

now if someone could get on with delivering a good manifold

I got the figures from the Ford and Holden ute brochures!!!!

Dad has both of them because he was looking at getting one or the other...he ended up buying the VY SS because he likes the way they look better, they dont have a plastic tray or leaf springs, they carry more load, and the Holden salesman (dads mate) gave him a massive fleet discount and awesome trade in on his VS ute...
