Are they speed or monitoring cameras?

Has anyone been to the gong lately? On the F6 at the bottom of Mt Ousley, opposite the Uni there is what looks like a camera/flash - the only thing is it is facing oncoming traffic as you come down the last corner at bottom of the hill on the LHS.

Also there is one on the opposite side about 300m down the road on the corner before you get to the Uni exit.

They do not have any signs near them.

It'd be pretty silly if it was going to end up a fixed speed camera or something. I can just imagine everyone braking down the hill, making it more likely to have an accident there...not that people don't do that already.

It's apparently going to be a camera, but just hasn't been activated yet (the camera probably isn't fitted). Safety & sensibility isn't an issue; regardless of whether anyone gets hurt, a lot of people exceed the speed limit there, so in the RTA's eyes it's a good place to put a camera.
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

I thought that was to change next year? [ie. the official policy, maybe not for that particular camera]

thing is normally the camera is on the same side as the traffic is heading. These ones are on opposing sides.

and don't forget more cameras south of Jervis Bay.. The RTA have stood 2 new cameras 6km north and 20km north of Bega, and there is no justification except revenue raising... The RTA have stood a lot of cameras that won't be operational for a few months. The bega ones still have plastic bags on them, maybe an idea for when they become operational.. hehehe
