high pressure radiator cap, other than brand names?

are higher pressure radiator caps (eg 1.3bar) available anywhere besides brand name stuff?
I couldnt care less about the brand name and they do charge rather excessively for them ($100?).

    Anybody found any other options?

Yeah, but doesn't a Trust radiator cap give you at least 20 extra fwkw? Worth the $100!!
Seriously though, I don't know. And yeah, why do you need a higher pressure cap?

I always thought that if you used a higher pressure cap you'd be more prone to blowing the rubber hoses, especially if they're deteriorated.

Maybe he's hooked up his turbo wrong...
Radiators sort of look like intercoolers. :D

Quit paying out guys, I'm interested to know why its needed.

I know it will increase the boiling point of water but it will also cause greater stress on water pump seals, water pipes etc...

where did u get a price of 100 bucks 4 a radiator cap. try more like 8 bucks for a 135kpa from repco. raising the pressure on your cap increase the boiling point but it does cause a lot of stress on all of the cooling system. generally a car that runs ultra hot, eg vt commy runs a 135kpa cap to increase the temp the water boils at. if your car is overheating this is not a good way of getting around it as it will blow hoses...

I would have thought that having a high pressure cap would help in the avoidance of the coolant flashing to steam in those areas of the engine that can get very hot during adverse conditions...certain parts of the head can get very hot & if this causes steam to form, then detonation is not far behind.

The coolant systems of engines do not have nice even temperatures throughout but are very dynamic with great variations in temperature.

I think VPW list high pressure caps at a reasonable price - $20-$30. I think you would also need to ensure that all the cooling system is designed to suit the operating pressure.
