    Predator Carbs

Just a quick question, does anyone know who the dealer for Predator carburettors is in Australia? Or do they still even make them? Or how much would I be looking at for a pair of second hand ones.

Does anybody know much about them, or had any experience with them??

Ive seen them advertised in very old Street Machine magazines (from the 80s) and I was talking recently with a bloke who has one on a 460 big block Ford and he swears by them. Apparently the carbs adjust themselves so that they run the correct fuel-air mixture and under/over fuelling isnt a problem.
I also see the silver XY ute that was featured in Street Machine mag has a set on it as well.

theyre a variable venturi carb, same principal as the french varijet on the blue motor commodores.

i havent seen them advertised for years now! maybe someone like american power, yella terra or rare spares would know if they still exist and who the distributor for them is....
Turns out, far too much has been written about great men and not nearly enough about morons

Secoh, the varajet on the blue motors is'nt really a constant depression carb like a predator, they are similar to a Qjet in that they are a 2 stage carby with a spring loaded air valve that controls airflow through the secondary throat, and from memory also moves a needle which controls the mixture.

The predator is the same in its principle of operation as an SU carburettor, it just uses a different mechanism to do it. It uses air doors instead of a piston, & a cam does the job that the needle in an SU does.

They flow about 900cfm rated the same way as a Holley, and it's hard to over carb with them as they only flow as much as the engine demands. Thats about all I know about the things.

            Thanks guys, much appreciated.
Yep, the Predators flow up to 930cfm but because of their design they only flow what the engine needs, so youre never overcarbed like you would be with a Holley. Also they reckon theyre easy to work with as they only have about a third of the parts of most other 4 barrel carbs.

The set up I hope for is two Predators on top of a tunnel ram. Not your usual set up but it should be effective.
