    Sticky door handles

For all those who've reassembled a car from it's component atoms ... is there a generic problem when the door-handles are "sticky"?

The handles in Project Volvo are annoying; they're really stiff, such that they actually stay "up" when you release them. I can't see any adjustment inside the mechanisms though. I thought that the striker was in the wrong place initially, but after moving it around a lot I think I've got it right ... plus it happens when the door's wide open anyway.

To get an "as new" feeling, am I going to have to replace the mechanism inside the door? Anyone know?

Ta in advance; and a great Christmas to those who celebrate it, and enjoy the holiday to those who don't. :D
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

Could it just be that the slop in the linkages (or handle itself) means that something, somewhere is now going over-centre as you lift the handle? Could be fixable with a resleeve of the offending item.

...hang on, what am I saying? I'm giving advice on Volvo doorhandles now. I'm losing it

try and isolate the stickiness- disconnect the linkages and see if they stick, etc. The door handle dodgyness I found on the zed was due to paint overspray reducing clearance in a vital spot, and causing it to rub. Dunno if this helps

Om my old Fiat it was bog that had squeezed thru that stopped one hande from working. In my Alfa the handles were just plain worn out after 20 years, luckily I found some NOS handles that were pretty cheap and fitted them.

Look for small springs that hav strecthed and effect the feel of the handle....sometime you can wind them one extra turn.
