Agree with Southo there lol....the 6th gen is cheaper to insure, and won awards for safety when it came out.

right, positive input, sorry bout that, got sidetracked
believe it or not i dont think civics are bad cars, for a daily driver i'd like to own one, i just hate it how dicks put huge bodykits, fartcans and asian stickers on them,
i cant really help much either then most honda dealers suck, and parts are expensive, judging from that picture but you might get problems with kerbs, the front spoiler thing looks pretty low, looks pretty clean but

Honda Civic 1993 V-TEC hatchback. Bucket seats, air, steer, full options, needs computer, unregistered. $5500 or near offer. Engine#B1685600399 AUBURN 0404-10 9289
Look what I found in the trader...looks a bit dodgy though...no computer??? plus it says b16...if its a b16a...they were in the SIR EG civics which were not released here, unless you get a personal import.
Normal EG engine series start with D."So... let me get this straight. You want to fly on a magic carpet to see the king of the potato people and you're telling me your completely sane? " :knock:

I don't think the Astina had much better quality, per se, but it did feel more upmarket. The Civic doesn't have much centre console, probably in an attempt to make it more roomy, but it cheapens the whole affair; and there's more vinyl on the doors too, with only a fairly small swatch of cloth.Originally posted by Bozz
I've been in that generation Civic and I must say the 323 Astina from the similar years seemed to have better quality about it, the difference is the Civic is considerably bigger inside.
My mum's/sister's Si had seats I really loved though; for some reason they just suited me, despite being Japanese & the fact that I have an oversized & overfed Celto-Jewish arse. They were even better, for me, than Nissan Australia seats ... which some may find hard to believe.
So despite the reduced auro of luxury, I didn't find it affected comfort.
Oh, now I think about it, the the cloth in the door trims had started looking a little saggy. The cloth in general was very hard-wearing & didn't look worn at all after 10+ years of bums sliding around on it, but the glue was obviously starting to give up on the doors. That would be a quality issue, IMHO.
Spunky, VTEC didn't come out here in Civics until '94, when the VTi replaced the non-VTEC Si. So that car's obviously a transplant job, and it probably had a quality ECU that the owner wanted to keep.
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

yeah I know...although I know someone who sold his personal import EG SIR years ago, and the new owner had it stolen lol.Originally posted by Forg

The Si's go pretty well, even in auto - my uncle has one."So... let me get this straight. You want to fly on a magic carpet to see the king of the potato people and you're telling me your completely sane? " :knock:

The following are ALL 5th Generation models
Breeze - Oct 1991 to Sept 1995 (all Breeze models are 5th Gen)
GL Hatch & Sedan - Oct 1991 to Oct 1993 (replaced by GLi)
GLi Hatch & Sedan - Oct 1993 to Sept 1995
GLi Special Edition Hatch & Sedan - Jul 1995 to Sept 1995
Si Hatch & Sedan - Oct 1991 to Oct 1993
VEi Sedan - Jun 1993 to Sept 1995
VTi Hatch & Sedan - Oct 1993 to Sept 1995
VTi Special Edition - Aug 1995 to Sept 1995
So basically, try and steer clear of 1991 to 1995 model civics unless you can get a good deal on insurance first..
The Si was the first DOHC 16V - 96kW / 144Nm
The VTi-R was the first V-Tec DOHC 16V - 118kW / 148Nm (6th Gen in October 1995 from what I can see here - all the others are 63kW to 96kW SOHC

I've had had my EG civic for the last 3 years. Also had the previous model 88-91. Gets you from a 2 b pretty well and it does have good poke for stop start traffic. Its got the same twin carbie setup as the 88-90 model but some how this engine fitted to the EG model sounded very course/castrated and not as refined when it was in the previous model (88-91)
92-93 breeze ( certainly no hurricane )
92-93 gl (twin carbie)
92-93 si ( injected )
94-95 gli ( injected )
94-95 vti IMO is really a rebadged si
Only known problems is that with the automatic ones the slusher tends to die very quickly if not well maintained. Could go as early as 120km. Besides that the manuals and car are very reliable.
Hope this helps!

My sister didn't seem to be paying too much for the Si; usually around $1k a year. Seems pretty normal for a run-of-the-mill car insured for around the $12k-$15k mark, in suburban Sydney.Originally posted by Southo

True, but there wasn't a huge difference; not enough to affect anyone in our family, anyhoo. Both engine & road noise (although ours had 50-series tyres).Originally posted by rj-astra
From what I remember the Civic of that vintage was alot noisier than the equivalent Mazda Astina (or 323 Sedan).
I'd buy a Civic sedan over a Civic hatch, mind you, IMHO they look a lot better in any Civic post 1991 (excepting the coupé).
Pretty close; except with a few new colours available, and a SOHC VTEC engine replacing the DOHC Si engine (which was the same engine as the Gen2 CR/X). The VTi was more suited to an auto 'box though; beefier torque curve.Originally posted by snorky

They are the EK model, pretty pricey tho, you would want at least a VTi or better still vti-r, don't think the Type R was available in Aust, VTI-r's first came as a hatch from JP and coupe form from USA between 1998-2000 i think.Originally posted by SIKMA
damm! thanks for that southo..... wat about the model after that? any ideas?

The EK's aren't that expensive anymore. You can find vtir hatches starting around the 15K mark. Actually the EK coupes came out earlier than that, although the earlier models had the single cam vtec same as the vti of the EG civics. Driven one..pretty sluggy. There are some EG coupes around too, but rarer.Originally posted by Spud

If you go an EK, don't get a CXI - as manual windows lol :p"So... let me get this straight. You want to fly on a magic carpet to see the king of the potato people and you're telling me your completely sane? " :knock:
