I'm not that creative. Just give me a bucket and big spoon.

        I like to stir.

Coyote - You never cease to amaze me! :p

FWIW My father has a Subaru Outback Limited, which he purchased in learly 99. Throughout the 3 years of ownership he's had a list of problems longer than his arm. the computer has been replaced, the clutch replaced after 6 months, the timing chain and tensioner, water pump, and the list goes on.

Basically what I'm trying to say was that my father's vehicle was indeed a lemon. And all we were really after is quality that you'd expect for $47k, which we now have not received. A motor replacement was out of the question, as they would find any excuse not to change the motor. Understanding that your circumstances are different, I still feel that you'd be hard pressed to get Subaru to change the motor. I can tell you that we tried, and due to Subaru's fabulous customer care we will indeed never buy another Subaru.

                    BTW Paydirt,

I've found every current Subaru dealer in Brisbane to be basically worthless, so your story does not surprise me. The dealership I think is great got dumped for not being fancy enough and the only current dealership that I would deal with can't sell STis. The response I got from SA when a dealer tried to blow up my old car further makes me not want to deal with them.

Having said that, I place no blame on Subaru or the dealer for what we are discussing here. This guy tried to dud them and didn't get away with it. Don't see how he (or his mate) can complain about that.
                    Happy Christmas

Coyote, too true to that. What we found through our extensive search for a decent dealer/workshop, was that John French was by far the best and best on price too. After that would have to be Moorooka Subaru. Even after all the trouble we had they were the only workshop to want to start pulling things off, eg the computer, the timing chain, to try and sort the problems. Every other dealer tried telling us there wasn't a problem.

                        Two things:

Why try to allocate responsibility to Subaru for poor workmanship from a third party - Its people like this that cause grief for everone else with a legitimate claim. Dont get me started on the hassle I went through to make a claim with a manufacturer of a previous car - and still was never resolved

And how the hell dont you notice that much oil escaping from the crankcase breather? I'm actually surprised that it could empty a sump completely

                          Subaru

Last year I worked for 1 month doing Work experience at Subaru/Ford. We never really did have problems with the WRXs. they used to just come in for a regular service normally. The only bad WRX was a STi that came in with a Blown motor!!! And he got it replaced under warrenty. The WHOLE engine. I remember it clearly cos I had to help pull the bloody gearbox off it. I also have a STi piston which they gave me after they sent it off for inspection. The Outbacks were a bit problematic with their electrical system, especially in cabin. Otherwise They were heaps better than all the Fords that came in, which would come in for problems constantly, espeically AU ford utes. The best part was, after the service on the WRXs, theyd take me for the brake tests. Damm that was good, The quickest I ever went in was this Club Spec evo 4 with a APS tuning kit. That car just stuck to the ground and FLEW.

The most horrible memorys at subaru are when they take freshly run in WRXs put this cleaner shit in the injection system, take em out the back and rev the absolute **** outta them.

Another bad memory was when a Brand new 01 WRX (when i was working there- they had JUST come out) came in for a driveshaft - the owner had been Rallying it - it was covered in about 2-3 centimeters of Mud all around - the engine bay, well, that had a coating of mud and dust. I was just even shocked to see the nice low profile tyres half shredded.

We've never had a problem with our Subaru dealer, we were recommended to them by someone else, even though they're in a town 70km out of Adelaide they get our business because their service is good (if we take the cars to them for a service they give us a courtesy car (usually something new) or if we cant spare a day to go to them they'll send a guy down to pick it up) and they give good trade-ins and very good deals, and they have gotten another 6+ sales from us recommending them to others.

Oil can go missing on a Subaru easy! I put just over 4L in mine a week ago. I have had only a very small leak that has been there the whole time I have had the car (should have been fixed under warranty, but the dodgys didn't!). It does not puff blue smoke at all and runs fine.

It goes in for a service next Friday, a compression test will be done. I hope it does not need a rebuilt, esp at only 40,000kms! I have a gut feeling I will be crying next Friday night

Take it completely back to standard and take it to a different subaru dealership and act dumb......(for most people on this forum that aint much of a stretch) (jokin )

The shop that fitted the air filter is not gonna fix it for you so i reckon Subaru is your best bet.

If they ask you if you have modified the car in any way just deny deny deny..
