Does anyone have advice on how to approach the original workshop? I mean he could go in screaming and swinging fists but I don't think that will get him too far.

Re: Subaru
Thats the one I'm talking about dude....was it Total Subaru??Originally posted by 4G63JETT
Last year I worked for 1 month doing Work experience at Subaru/Ford. We never really did have problems with the WRXs. they used to just come in for a regular service normally. The only bad WRX was a STi that came in with a Blown motor!!! And he got it replaced under warrenty. The WHOLE engine. I remember it clearly cos I had to help pull the bloody gearbox off it. I also have a STi piston which they gave me after they sent it off for inspection.

Get an independant expert to write a report on why the motor blew and then he can approach the orig workshop armed with a pretty strong backup as to why they shd fix it.
Otherwise is will be his word against theirs and I'm sure they have loads of experience wriggling their way out of this type of situation..

What ever happenned to people taking responsibility for their actions? Trying to get any dealer to fix it under warranty is the wrong thing to do. Even if you can get away with it, it's not right.
By all means he should try to get it fixed by the workshop that did the (dodgy) mods. If he can't, then he should take it on the chin.

How long ago did you check your oil?? Are you saying you went through 4L in a week????? Or you had to top up 4L since you last checked the oil, either way that's HEAPS of consumption...With no major external leaks??
Geez, I don't think you have any rings in your block....
How long has that been happening, or only just recently?
If the consumption is really that bad, I'd say the news will be too

But to a first year apprentice, they may not notice that the car has been modified, but to a senior mechanic, it would be pretty easy. Just looking at screws or bolts would be one giveaway.Originally posted by nicemudflaps
Take it completely back to standard and take it to a different subaru dealership and act dumb......(for most people on this forum that aint much of a stretch) (jokin
)
The shop that fitted the air filter is not gonna fix it for you so i reckon Subaru is your best bet.
If they ask you if you have modified the car in any way just deny deny deny..

you could say that it was the owners fault for not checking the oil level on a regular basis.
it seems as if the crankcase (devoid of any breathing apparatus) built up pressure and spewed it past a lot of the seals.jon
flygti was stoped n G'ed up to do a a burn out,n as we all no it doesnt take much to get him g'ed, so he did the burnout but who could blame him he had earned it with the effort he put in to be in the cruise and help it go ahead safely

I think I know what it is, I don't think it is bad however. It has not used any oil this week at all.Originally posted by PeterD

I think you are right on the money there. It is not dropping any oil at all, but you can smell it burning for sure. I know what else it is too however.Originally posted by coyote
DrNick,
A common problem is leakage around the tappet covers. If it happens on the passenger side the oil can get burnt off by the exhaust and be hard to find apart from a little misting near the gastket.
Thanks for the tip also!
