I don't mean any of this offensively but it seems more for the 'toss' value in *most* circumstances. Why throw big amounts of money at a car you can't drive properly, safely or comfortably yet? Fair enough if you have another driver take the reins for the short term...

...but consider the fact you are building up a car, and if you're too scared to drive it with the mods you make, then hell, in my opinion you definately shouldn't drive it, and maybe the mods aren't so necessary. Unless you want to be able to say 'oh i've got a 9,10,11 second car'..... and if thats the sole reason you spend the money then you're pretty silly (in my opinion).

Grimas... what speed have you been to in a car? 130mph isn't that bad on a levelled, graded and flattened slope. ??? (not trying to have a go at you, i promise!!)

Lonx, I'm one of those ppl to.

I enjoy driving my car, and I drive it all the time I can, but I have a mate run it at Jamboree and after we finish different mods mainly because a, he can peddle a REX better than most ppl I've seen, b, he's about half my weight, lol, c, I've not spent that much time at a drag strip, d, he's got an ANDRA license so he doesn't have to keep lineing up with the rest of the ppl.

And truthfully the only time it goes to the track is for Jamboree or when we've finished all the mods.

1/4 mile just doesn't really interest me, but it seems to be a real bragging right with most ppl so why not get the best out of it.

0 to the speed limit is all that happens on the street and you can do that anywhere, anytime.

its alright doing 130mph in a club sport where you build up speed over a distance but when over 400 metres and the car skates a bit im not happy, the car hasnt taken over two years to get sorted and im not going to throw it all away over what some says. as i said above my money my car

im not getting in this shitefight.

one question though, do you guys with fast cars still run the car most of the time over the 1/4 or only like 1 in 8 times it goes to the track?
just wondering cause i suppose you have to learn some day!

I may not have a fast car but it's a quick streeter so,

My old REX went to the track twice, once for a shake down after it was finished and once for Jamboree, total of about 6 passes, of which I ran one on the shake down day.

The STi's been to the track once, for Jamboree last year, total of about 5 runs. and will go back when the mods are finished.

Exactly why waste all your money and then throw it away because someone says your a cheque book racer.
regardless of who drives it, you still own a 9sec-10sec car.

I built every single nut and bolt of my car, and exclusively raced it for many years. It was only in about the last 12 months that some mates started racing it (4 or 5 have driven it) but i still drove it myself during that period when time permitted - usually the larger meets.

I could enjoy owning a Ferrari and never take it to the track.

If you ask me, watching a ~10 second or lower car caning down a drag strip on slicks and front runners skating all over the place looks scary as hell.

Anyone who's got the balls to do it deserves a gold star in my book. I'm sure it's not that bad though, once you take that first step and climb in and give it a run. I'd imagine that if you did try it once Grimas (for example), noone would be able to get a drive after that. :D

I'm happy to say I'm not the world's best driver - not by a longshot. Sure, I'd have a go - but I'd leave top eta aspirations to someone who could achieve them straight off.

why do drag teams employ drivers to drive instead of throwing the keys to the fat arse owner/mechanic? Because the art of traction/throttle control is just that - an art. Then there is reaction time - some would say that`s an instinct, not an art that can be acquired.

this is a sport (where, most of the time, winning is everything) - and it can also be a team sport - is that so hard to comprehend?
