this thread really isn't getting very far butcher. in case you haven't noticed, no one person is alike and trying to get inside their head will probably just drive you insane. and many people, for example WHOOSH, drive their car on the street and leave the track for someone who may be better suited for the job. the 1/4 mile is straight...and IMHO not fun...

Whoosh I think its abit different driving a newish WRX at 130mph or less than it is driving a 30yo small car with 400hp+....I don't think you'd be too keen in something like grimas's car!!!
Uwish...what car do you drive...everyone loves driving fast but its all relative as speed to car...like doing 200+kph in a porsche or 200+kph in an R100 like mine is a big difference...its not overly nerve racking but it is a little concerning!
Getting someone else to have a drive first up is fine but once you are ready I think its fine if it takes a while to get up the nerve to race a quick older car!

Devious, I agree with you totally.
But then I've also got a series 2 RX7 in the build that will basically be a pure drag car. I'll be getting in that for sure.

How can you guys happily hand your keys over to someone else to drive it ?
Most of the time insurance doesnt cover race track damage.
If someone asks to drive my car im incredibly scared about them damaging it in some way. Its a whole different story to actually hand your keys over and say "here, go and RACE my car!"
Whats the story if the driver buggers up a launch and destroys the 5grands worth of diff you just put in ? Especially if the driver is one of your "mates" as howy puts it. Surely thats gotta put some stress on the friendship?

That was kinda my next question....
Grimas can answer this;
When you have one of the workshop guys (a professional) driving your car, are they (the workshop) responsible for breaking anything as a result of a mistake they make during a race? Is the driver directly responsible or do they just say "sorry, shit happens" and you are stuck with the repairs ?
Anyone can make a mistake - even if they are a professional !

what projectmagna said.
these guys just aren't Jim from down the street who has a bit of talent on the 1/4 mile...they're true professionals who know how to get good times out of the respective car whilst minimalising the risk of damage.
if an owner hands over the keys (or drives it for that matter) and think nothing will ever go wrong, they're a dickhead"I'm a stupid moron, with an ugly face, and a big butt, and my butt smells, and I like to kiss my own butt."

omy god..id be pissed off hard if someone raced my car put it in the wall and left me with thousands of dollars in repairs...they reason why i started this post was because last night SIKJIM-the torana blew something up and his mate nearly put it into the wall..im sure theres a few grand in repairs to be done..expensive night for jim since he was the on the side line watching his mate stuff his car up(not intentionaly),thats my point i was trying to get at...bye

no u cant, u get done/fined/booked/yelled at for being a "street race" for "speed test"Originally posted by WHOOSH
0 to the speed limit is all that happens on the street and you can do that anywhere, anytime.

no offence to anyone, but why have a 9,10,11 sec car if u cccant drive it in the 1st place??? if it was my car i would build it to what i could handel.
if it was me, no mater if it was a $200 car or a $200000 car only i would drive it, not some one eles, no mater if it was a 19 second car or a 9 second car only i would drive it, not some one eles.
if it WAS a 9 second car adn i could only drive it to a 13 second pass, so be it untill i can actully drive it. theres no chance in hell i would let anyone drive my car, watching it hit the wall with some one eles driving isnt my cup of tea, if it was gonna hit the wall i would wanna be in it :D. (BTW: dont come back saying "they know how to drive so they wont hit the wall", it can happen to anyone)Originally posted by LobsterFreeze a gearbox and slide it under his front door

did anyone see that capri that went into the wall at eastern creek a few weeks back? the guy who owned the car jumped the barrier and ran onto the track to punch the shit out of the driver. He said thats the 3rd car hes written off!! 4 paramedic guys had to hold them apart. The driver said that the gas cable stuck on and he had no control over the car. I say they need better licencing programs for these ultra powerfull cars. Also take the pink gemini barbe9z for another example, inexperianced driver in powerful car and he hits a guy in the burnout. im with grima on this one, dont drive it if you dont think you can handle it!72 Mini (4EFTE) 13.8@106mph WSID

Nismo, did you read my post??
0 to the posted speed limit. get there as quick as you can, and sorry but if there's nobody else next to you, and even if there is it'd be hard to prove your racing.
Shit I've lined up cop cars and done the same thing, not once has one of them pulled me over for doing anything illegal, I've been pulled over twice so the coppers could have a ride but that's it.
PVL, Yep mark's pretty happy, would have bettered it if he hadn't had a few problems the other night.I Refuse To Have A Battle Of Wits With An Unarmed Person.
