Current model Corolla - More power and other options.

A mate has just called me to get info on the new Corolla (1.8 100kW). He is just about to buy one and wants to know how to get more power out of it.

Does anyone have one of these or know of results from companies offering what he is after?

No, a 2jz transplant is not an option and nor is forced induction. Stuff like ecu upgrades, extractors, etc is what he wants.

not exactly sure about the new corolla.. but for the new celica freeing up the intake with a new 3" pipe directly from the throttle body to a boxed pod or bigger intake box makes a good difference.. the celica has a MAP so you dont have to worry about the afm. a mate bought an injen one from the us for about $600, but you could get one custom made in stainless for about $200.

he dosnt have any proof of the results on his car, but they are supposed to add an extra 15-20hp at wheels according to people in the us who have put one on their stock car. seems a bit high but dyno proof is here..before and after.

incidently, the corolla will be comming out with the yamaha/celica motor in the near future.. if your mate is after a high performance corolla perhaps he is best to wait for one of those, they arent half bad.

coyote.. I agree with Dan.. I'd wait for the Sportivo... 189 hp and 6 spd stock.. it'll nail whatever he does to the 100 KW one now, and have warranty too..

I still have to convince my old man to get a 6spd and celica transplant into his 2000 model "levin" cough..

            psssi98,

he has the autobahn rear brake upgrade

            rice rice baby

the corolla's are BLOODY good cars, strong as nails and also quite comfy for a mum & dad kinda car. dead easy to drive , just point and shoot

my mother has a 2001 Levin auto and my older brother has a riced up 2001 5 speed.

the 5 speed has more get up , but i prefer the auto for running around in...

wait for the sportivo as it has the celica 140kw motor in it.

My friend works in the performance arm of Toyota Australia (and yes it is pretty small these days!) and he's indicated that pricing will be in the high $30ks

Yep, I'd do the same.. but he's basically bought this one and price was a BIG factor.

Out of interest, any word on how much the Sportivo will be?

That's what I thought.. it's not an option at that price.

So, back to the 100kW jobbie........

Tell him to drive it stock until he can afford to sell it & buy something faster. Any money he spends on it will make FA difference (except it might get noisier). Nothing for sensible money will actually make it fast...
