    Info on a Mercedes 300SE

I'm looking for info and opinions on a 1988 Merc 300SE. Have tried looking round on the web, but all i can find is parts pages and for sale ads, not really telling me about the car itself.

My brother is looking at buying one - not for performance reasons, just as a nice comfy car to go from a to b in.

Can anyone direct me to technical info on the car, or am able to tell me about them ? pics ? opinions ? experience ? reliability ? etc...

Make sure it has a good service record (and the milage corresponds) and then take it to a merc specialist and get him to check out.

If it is a good example then happy days....if it is not then walk ...you can blow huge amounts of cash very quickly to keep it on the road.

They are great cars and very well built but if something does go wrong they are not cheap.

Ditto the above...although it seems that that shape (if is the one I am thinking of) was thought to be the most reliable and the last of the 'old school' built like a Panzer and reliable as hell Mercedes...the W140 (the huge slab shaped one) had a LOT of problems, specifically the evaporator (bye bye entire cabin to access it!) and the current shape is also full of gremlins, not to mention that the 'bank vault' quality is now more akin to er...a solid screen door.

How much does he want to spend?? There's a lot of orphan cruiser cars out there...and a bargain Q45 in the current Trading Post.
