I just came back from touring around japland for 2 months, and though it is more expensive than say SE Asia, it is possible to do it on a relatively modest budget.
Go you will definitely have a ball, and japanese women are really quite interesting...
There are a few tricks of the trade for surviving over there, and as was said definitely have a job lined up before you go as getting one over there will be a b*tch.
PM me if you have any specific questions.
Cheers,
J
PS: smiling and an Aussie accent are premium pickup lines in Jap.
I don't know anything about living there or getting a job there (I've only been on holiday to Japan) but if you are interested, give it a go, Japan is really cool.
"i still want to go over. crap snow over there would b better than threadbo on a good season"
Actually, up north in Hokkaido it`s probably still firing. I live in one of the snowiest parts of Honshu (apparently, in terms of snowfall, it`s one of the snowiest parts of the world), right next-door to Nagano, but I haven`t seen a decent fall in ages. Mind you, as I type, there`s light snow coming down, and it has been all day.
As long as I don`t have to dig the car out tomorrow, I`m happy! (and it`s great to have the opportunity to go for a spin in the mountains again)
