Just as an idea, maybe we should keep the images sizes down to say 800x600, or at least keep the width no larger than 800. Then you can link to higher res versions if you want.

Just to keep the thread a bit mor tidier, and to say some a little bandwith.

As i said, its just an idea.

Try getting a 2nd hand Canon G1. Will set you back $300 -$500
Otherwise stick with a manual SLR.

GAZ914:Get yourself a Toshiba battery for your DC4800, if you haven't already. Battery life will extend to 400 shots with the LCD on! as opposed to the standard battery 10 shots with the LCD on.
Details are at dpreview.com review of the DC4800.
I upgraded to a Canon G3 and haven't looked back! at least I can see the LCD without those damn scan lines and crappy resolution!
I had mine permanently set to ISO 100, other ISO's where ridiculously noisy.

              krisko, thanks for the tip.
The battery life IS a big issue with the DC4800.
dpreview.com looks like a great reference site.
The 4800 actually belongs to work, but I get to borrow sometimes. Looks like a Canon might be the go when I get my own digi-cam. Still like my AE-1 though

To you guys with SLR 35mm camera's, what lenses would you recommend for taking things like portraiture vs. landscapes? I'd be looking at taking some nice "artsy" pics of the car as well as people of course as well as some nice landscape shots.

I currently have a Canon EOS 30 and a 28-105mm USMII lens and a 50mm f1.8. I'm planning on buying another lens (hopefully an 'L' series :D ) and would be interested in peoples recommendations?

Im so happy I just received my new colour printer an Epson Photo 2100, Super A3 sized 7 inktanks (Dye sub) and 2880dpi capable. Almost more expensive then my digital camera, $1800!

I've also worked out Hyperfocal shooting for the Canon G3 for flawless shooting in the dark, without the AF assist light and having to worry about subjects in focus.

Photos coming soon. I have to rehash my homepage to suit...
