Am I the only one who sees the huge amount of money wasted by constantly buying and selling cars? (unless you're a dealer of course :p) The depreciated resales must cost some of you guys a fortune.

not if you buy 2nd hand and buy wisely from people who are desperate for cash and also choose models that will nto depreciate much.

on the other hand guilty as charged with a couple of cars, having said that will never buy new car again unless i win lotto.

The story is well-known: Somewhere in the mountains the Finn picks up a beautiful lady which even now had a breakdown. The beauty is impressed by the A-Class beast and says: "That is a fast car." At Häkkinen's hint that the car has two engines she says with disparaging view: "Oh yes. And you are Formula-1 world-champion."

I used to be a mechanic, so in my spare time I would pick up a bargain car, like an old sigma with a blown motor, but a good body. these could be had for anything between nothing and $500. it'd cost another $300 to fix or replace the motor and maybe another $100 for bits and pieces, and it would be a car I could sell for maybe $1500 to $2k.

not a huge profit but enough to make it worthwhile when I earnt $350 a week in wages.

When I went off to study engineering full time and living off ausstudy, it became a necessity of life. It was the only way I could afford to live, as ausstudy paid for rent and nothing else.

                          Secoh: Fair enough.
I understand the people, like yourself, who try and make abit of money from buying shittas and doing them up.
I dont understand the people who buy cars, spend money on them, then lose their money selling or just sit them in a shed.

I'm still cursing about how much I've lost just with 2 cars (I realise my mistake, modding cars). I'd hate to think how much some people have gone through.

tell you what, it's the hardest $500 you ever make, but when the options are limited, you just gotta do it.

Yeah I dont understand the concept of shovelling money into cars then selling them for near nothing. but I guess its better than drugs and hookers huh hehe

All my cars I recouped all costs or made money when I sold them except for the Pulsar - I'll never buy a brand new car again after that one! From $24000 to $17000 in a couple of years! (Plus the odd $4k I spent on the conversion)

hence why a lot of people choose to do bolt on mods these days.. then at the end of it all when they are bored they can revert said car back to factory and then either sell mods individually or buy another and bolt them back on.

the parts by themselves fetch a shite load.

on a car they are worthless....

                                go figure!
