Grab yourself an FB Holden,These are lovely looking classic cars with fins and all just like the american cars and you can pick them up for a reasonable price
I love the old holdens, but most of them aren't what you'd call roomy. Myself and most of my friends are all over 6ft so 4 of us in the EH can be done, but you wouldn't want to be on a long distance trip.
If you want something you can chuck all your friends in and just cruise about go for an old ford, chev, or a dodge.
I've been in some where I can straighten my legs out sitting in the back seat :D
Go the Valiant!
Maybe get a VG/VF Coupe, these look so awesome, and that just a nice clean stocker!
Thought about a charger? They dont come much kooler than that.
Otherwise have a look at dodge pheonix's...they are uber kool, i reckon a pillarless '72 model, big block and bench seats :D
Or maybe VG wagon? Or a VE VIP(the long wheelbase ones )
DHS - Go have a wander through what for sale on www.moparmarket.com and you'll be surprised at what you can get for a reasonably small amount of money.
If I didn't have the VC I would personally look for something along the lines of an AP5/6 or an S series. An S series dumped on whitewalls is all class. You don't even have to be show quality to look good either, just a nice clean straight car with decent paint. AN who cares how fast it is, it's purpose is solely for cruising, and the 225 will do more than a capable job of that.
I'm going to be slamming a white Mk1 soon, complete with the choice of 13inch skinny rostyle wheeltrim steelies, fat 13 inch 6 slotters or 13 inch minilites. And a blue interior... Sweet

This topic occurred to me while I was talking to a mate on the weekend; if you can contact a few car wholesalers (dunno if they're interested in being contacted out of the blue) you might find yourself an absolute bargain in "old unwanted" stuff. This friend of mine was talking to a guy in a used car yard who'd seen extremely good condition (as in spotless interior, possibly slightly oxidised paint which'd polish up nicely) cars being bought for nothing by wholesalers who'd seen so many interesting cars themselves that they just had no use for these old unwanted beasties ... I suppose the first time a spotless Peugeot 203 comes up as a wholesaler you're tempted to buy it, but once you've seen enough stuff like that you probably just want to get rid of it. That was $300. A ZC Fairlane (1970 I think it was, probably an XW or XY equivalent) with a 302 was worth $600, and it was immaculate & as-new inside, and just needed a polish outside (apparently).
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.
Go the Vals and the old Chryslers. Like others said heaps of parts around, heaps of clubs and guys willing help out and you can still pick some up relatively cheap. There's also a fair few web sites around too.
