Drags have been going on in that location for approximtely 30 years. It is nothing new, if the police were genuinely serious about it, regular patrols would remove this. However general patrols aren't news worthy.

Love the cops comments at the end "We can stop them and we will"
Yeah right. That didn't look like drags to me. That looked like one stickered up 32 GTSt and a nice older BMW getting it sideways and a few open diff Commodores lighting one wheel up through intersections. Wow. These are the idiots that should be caught. And have their cars taken off them. This is clearly not an abandoned industrial area.WTB in Melb - Ford AU 6 cyl engine - needs to be in good conditionOriginally posted by paul05don't waste your time asking questions about real cars on the rice forum go to ls1 .com ,it's alot more accommodating and informative than pf.

They did deserve it, that looks like a busy road and especially if some of them were pissed, stoned and/or unlicensed.I take photos of shiny things with wheels. www.rohanphillips.com

Ahhhh, its good to see that the media is as stupid everywhere over this wide brown land.
A couple of years ago there was a news report on the goings on in Braddon (the car hang place on friday nights in Canberra), talking about burnouts and street racing in which they showed footage of the Summernats of 5-6 years previous!
They could lable that bust about anyhting to do with cars, eg a high speed pursuits, and run some old footage of a clapped out Corolla trying to do a burn, and every average Joe family would be thinking "Those reckless young hooligans!!" while screaming and shaking their fists at the T.V.
They make out that every young bloke with a car is a potential criminal.
Loosers.

Frankston - Dandenong Road has been a popular place fro Street Drags for years and they move to about 7 different locations around there in one night. I used to work in the Mobil service Station on cnr Frankston- Dandenong Road and Greens Road when one night the police decided to move in on street racers. They blocked everyone in and went for it with Batons etc along peoples cars as well as people's heads. Heaps of cars were damamged that night racers and onlookers the same.
This only stopped it all for a couple of months and then they were back. They cannot stop street racing and they are dreaming if they think they could.

The point is that the media are representing these same hoons as "street racers", without actually showing a real "street race". How is the general public supposed to realise that two cars giving it everything up to the speed limit, or a few cars having races in a deserted industrial zone isnt equal to dickheads in commodores with single-spinners ripping up second hand tyres on a set of pursuits?Originally posted by Tim510
i dunno what u are all whinging about?
what they were doing was illegal.....i would be VERY pissed off if i was driving home and bogan wankers were doing burnouts on a main road...
Whilst neither is legal, or for that matter smart, doing burnouts on a main road is IMO far more stupid than giving it a bit from the lights against another car in the middle of the night.
They want to do do a story on burnouts and hoons, sure, by all means use that footage (even if it is years old). You want to do a story on street racing? At least get some videos of a street race (hell, why not even use a few scenes from FnF? :O )<dan-> so just to clarify this.. your dad's defence against car theft is a swift piss on the face ?
Regarding the french cars, from what i've been able to deduce the wheel and hub are fitted together as blanks (no holes) then a man named jacques gets a drill press and drills between 2 and 7 holes in random locations, the hubs are then tapped (each hole with a different threadform to prevent the wrong bolt going into the wrong hole) and the wheel and hub are bolted together and then attached to the suspension. - Hotgemini

A few points which just crossed my mind while watching TV:
1. If you have a look at all teh cars who were doing burnouts and "street racing" i really havent seen any really modified cars. All I have seen ur every day Bogadore, maybe one or two witha front bar, and ur mootech exhaust and that it. Ah yea and a skyline. But no cars where someone has spend big bucks to do it up ... so why are modified cars always targeted and not the standard looking cars too?
2. Movies such as Fast and the Curious (1 & 2), Gone in 60 sec etc, feature scenes such as street racing. So what can we expect ... of course your everday bogan will go out and try to be as "cool" as your dummy yank screet racer in the movies ... there is not even a single statement anywhere saying that pretty every much everything featured in such movies is illegal ... ???
3. Just on 7 news: A gang of hoons cuased a car accident (somewhere cant remeber where) ... thats it ... all i saw was a standard car sitting in the fiel next to the road ... ! and another one: 17yo unlicensed, drunk driver looses controled and runs into a house ...
