just the other day I was thinking "why, why, why are the riciest cars always honda??? are they trying to compensate for something?"

I still think the yanks do rice better than the japanese

you want rice hondas, and for that matter, rice anything, try Macau or Hong Kong. even the pricier cars like NSX's and the like are not untouched by 3 bladed aluminium wings, stickers, and neons. thought my first live sighting of an nsx was going to be a disappointment, but there was a stock (read: miracle) gunmetal targa a few minutes later

as for the rice honda theory, i'd say that in the US they have a fair amount of street cred amongst themselves, and remember there is a bigger base to begin with so it wouldn't be hard to find acceptance. in all seriousness though, and i can't speak for the major centres where it would probably be more akin to the US, but Townsville doesn't have much in the way of Honduh rice at all, you're more likely to see a skyline or vl or excel with neons and chromies.

but that still doesn't explain why hondas may be more generally riced than other marques, especially as they are not a huge market power.

      where's my type-r badge :p

I dont get it though. Why do the yanks rice up honda? Because they are cheap. They're not cheap here! And I'd rather a riced up civic than a riced up excel.. at least have some decent build quality and resale value.

          back to the original question

Turbos_R_Us: your better of going down to your local inspection center and asking one of the guys there. Theres vehicle rules that the inspectors go by and theres road rules which the cops go by, cops are "supposed" to know the rules on what is/isn't legal. Your unlikely to get a proper response hear. Your in Sydney, so the rules might be slightly different.

As i said earlier, it is a distraction, yes your horn, lights, etc could be as well and if you decide to use them inappropriately you will be pulled over and fined, fog lights on innappropriately also can be fined, most cops don't bother but it can be done. Think about it if you drove everywhere with your horn on i'm sure the cops wouldn't pull you over... On a show car off the street neons look fine, but on the street you're just asking for unwanted attention by the cops, your inspection center may know, but ask for the law/written info rather than what they say, i've had conflicting stories come from cops/Vicroads when i've looked into stuffed before.

Now, the way i took these rules, it looks like neons are legal unless they are flashing or look like your brakes lights or something. These rules are for NSW.

              115 Interior lights

A vehicle may be fitted with interior lights that illuminate any interior part
              of the vehicle.

              123 Other lights and reflectors

              (1) A vehicle may be fitted with any light or reflector not mentioned in this
              Schedule.

              (2) However, unless subclauses (3) or (4) apply, a vehicle must not display:

              (a) a light that flashes, or

              (b) a light or reflector that:

              (i) shows a red light to the front, or

(ii) shows a white light to the rear, or

(iii) is shaped or located in a way that reduces the effectiveness of a light
or reflector that is required to be fitted to the vehicle under this Schedule.

For any queenslanders thinking of fitting neon lights, I refer you to the criminal code (-->PDF<-- click back there). I suggest you read chapter 22, section 211 as you're likely to be in court for that soon enough.
Don't worry, thats just the self-preservation instinct, in my experience you can safely ignore it.

As for neons I think executed correctly they can be quite fattening. My 15 is going to be copping some neon action, but is going to have the race to back up the rice.

Jash you know how they always follow the Japanese fads, music and fashion. It's always funny to see someone in a thick sweater when it never gets that cold or snows during winter in HK. As for Singapore, they only get to wear it when they got the cinemas

You have to be careful with neons under the car... you might get pulled over by the wank police.
