When my mates datto got broken into we had to replace the ignition. It was screwed onto the steering coloumn but the screws were hardened - so couldnt drill out - and had no head. They were the type that the head twists off when the right amount of torque is applied - therefore you can screw them up but then when done give them a bit more and the top twists off. Obviously to stop thieves undoing the ignition. We eventually broke the case that held the barrel, got a second hand barrel and keys, and just used screws to re anchor the ignition in and tape up the rest.
But I assume in your case you would like to keep it looking as good as possible ....

    Anyway, good luck

    cheers

Sounds like your hating your s13 as much as me

but seriously you have absolutely nothing to complain about. Until your rb25 fills up with brake fluid before you even start the thing and you have to take the head off, then you can complain.

And even after all that we lost the car keys and had to go through a few weeks of what you are

Still sounds weird, my door keys fitted the ignition fine, and as the other guys said, I dont think you'll be getting the ignition barrel out, they'll have to come to you.

Oh did i mention I got about 2000km before the engines decided to start blasting smoke out the breathers?

Thank your lucky stars mate it can get alot worse

      cheers

well the ABortion tools came out.

1 hammer, pliers, Knives, and a custom spanner (bent on fence).

I got the first none headed screw to come lose. (dont know how), might have been when i started going balistic with the hammer.

Then i got the knife and tried twurling it around. The screw starter to come out, but got stuck every now and then. So i just stuck the knife inbetween the igntion barrel and the bracket which was holding it on. A few taps with the hammer opened it up, and then back to the knife twurling screw around. Then got the swanner tapped it in the gap, and the thread was big enough to get pliers in and twist it to come out.

did the same on the other side, and the ingtion barrel just comes off.

Theres like a little lock which goes down into the steering colum when u take the keys out. So it doesn't go anywhere. Once i got the bracket off, i could just lift it straight up and out of the slot.

took a few hours, and now i can take ignition barrel down on monday.

Rb25sil80, sounds like these conversions are just trial and error.

I bet if you did another one it would take half the time.

anyways, i let u know how i go, but the keys still dont turn even when the barrel is out, so i guess keys dont suit barrel.

Might be a silly question, but how are you going to get it back in? :D

            dont give me that smile.

looks pretty easy. just screw some new bolts back in from the bottom bracket to the ignition barrel. The little latch comes down and sits in the steering column gap so it doesn't move around.

then its just a matter of soldering up all the wires i cut to get it off. (joke, would neve touch your wiring).

oh, and if u want i can drop your engine crane back to your house , the crane fits in the mags.

            let me know.

but i forgot where ya live.

mate ive had to do this before...

used nothing more then a hammer and chisel, you use them to unscrew the big bolts with no heads (do they have a name?)

if i were you i'd get some replacement bolts for it now..

dont want to make it any easier for someone to steal it now do we

I've had keys do this to me as well. The solution: I rubbed the keys over the kerb for a minute. It takes any burrs away, and its worked twice. Give it a go I guess.

have had this problem with freshly cut keys before just take them back and inform them of the problem and they will file the key so it fits i know you cant take the car down to the lock smith but see if he can attend your house after work and make it work if the filing doesnt work
