        1. Something Jap - apart from Esky
        2. Something you'll at least be able to get a slab for when you sell it
        3. Something where parts or wrecked cars are plentiful and cheap
        4. Something with a bit of poke

IMHO from driving shitters since I was 18:
Lasers: tons of parts, easy to work on, only problem is diode inside the dizzy. Car gets to running temp, it gets too hot and cuts out. Easy fix.
Dattos: so easy to mix and match parts
Toyotas: Shedloads of old coronas, Corollas, cheap as, easy to work on, plenty of granny spec cars out there
        Eskys: Cant go wrong

if you get a laser, just dont buy any parts for it (ie 323 stuff) from mazda, even if you are desperate, as the part is usually listed at twice the Ford price.

LOL @ Triumphs. heheh. My dad killed two, a 2000 & a 2500. and then a Wosely after that. Any wonder why he is known as "ace mechanic"?

one of my workers bought an Ex-taxi EF on gas for $2000

body is clean. IF you can overlook the fact its yellow with grey bumpers...2 grand is 2 grand.

Surprising that no one has mentioned the trusty Sigma yet. Those earlier Subie 4x4s can be ok for cheap as well.
I reckon being free just scares some people shitless

Even in my Shitters I like to have fun......That means RWD and a bit of grunt....matched with 10l per 100km fuel economy.

$3000 would buy you a Half decent R31

Well you guys have forgotten the gemini

Pretty easy on fuel, not bad looking, easy to work with, although most have rust, you can buy a decent one with little or no rust, parts are plentiful.

you can see some good examples even for around a grand.

                            Gemini?? as if!!!!!

I would definately reccommend the Toyota Corolla. I had a 1980 Corolla as my first car and I didn't have hardly any problems with it! I can't speak highly enough of them. Thanks to that I have updated to a Camry recently (see pic in avatar) and could not be more pleased with it.

Once a Toyota driver, always a Toyota driver!!!!

funny you should mention that, in my experience it has been exactly the opposite!! ford want more for the parts than mazda do..
