Bozz, I know they have this system in place for trucks in NSW, It's called SafetyCam and is to monitor trucks only at this point in time and it is very very effective.

I'm not sure how it works in VIC however.

I know there is talk about some thing similar for normal motor vehicles in NSW and they are looking into this very seriously at the moment. But after speaking to a few people regarding this they said it was virtually impossible to implement for cars / bikes as they simply don't have the resources/funding required.

I can't say much more on the forum but I can explain things a bit better in a PM if your interested.

Yes. The AP5 Valiant, a model I should like to own one day, doesn't, though.

I reckon being free just scares some people shitless

These ones measure how long it takes you to travel along the freeway - they are spaced many kilometers apart so know your average speed over a period of at least 5-10 mins between camera's.

You can't defeat them by slowing down for the cameras. I remember our premier Steve Revenue Bracks boasting on a news report how they will save lives because they will catch maniacs that know to slow for speed cameras.

I suppose the insurance company will MAKE you install the thing.

Like: "To insure this car we require alarm, tracker AND GPS big brother thingy."

I don't think the cars electronics system matters as the speed data would come from the GPS not from an engine feed, Yes??

Like posted above, there are face recognition systems that can identify and cross match thousands of faces per second, so a Safe-T-Cam style system to monitor every road vehicle is easily possible with current technology. The system would look at the shape of the vehicle as well as the number plate, so that it could find the vehicle again for the second time very easily and quickly. Also it could be set up to look for other things e.g. tired drivers based on driving patterns and vehicle motion etc..

The truck system uses very outdated hardware and the software concepts are much more clever now, because a lot of development on the concepts has been completed. e.g. there are security systems for airports to identify terrorists and criminals and systems for train stations to identify suicidal passengers etc..

Now,when u consider a 3/4 lane road, with everyone doing 100k's,how many cars are going to pass that camera in an hour,a lot more than 360.
So unless the camera can take multiple shots per second, how do they do it?
I think you are still missing the point.

There are (say) 3 lanes. Each has a camera on a gantry, pointing in the direction you are travelling.
They can take one photo per second, per lane (assuming they are the same as the NSW ones).
That is 3600 per hour per lane, not 360.

At 100kph, you are covering 28 metres per second. So unless you are within about 1.3 cricket pitches of the car in front (which is pretty close at 100 kays), the camera is going to be ready to go again.

The only way to beat them, if you really feel the need is either:
                a) cover your rear number plate.
                b) do 180kph through there, then stop at Macca's between the cameras!
Forgive your enemies, but never forget their names.

                    FastVP..
I think you will find it's hit and miss.. there is no real requirement to get "every" speeder.. you go through one, and get snaped, then go through the next and maybe get snapped, maybe not.. but if you DO get snaped and you've been a naughty boy/girl then you get a fine! that's in traffic anyhow.. if it's quiet then your pretty much screwed...

As for onboard computers to track your speed.. Interceptors.. put a device in between the information and the computer that sends the correct signals to the computer while you do what ever you want.. much like a piggyback chip for your ECU.. I have a friend who thinks he could make one, with enough info/circut diags..

Jasce, I believe there are seven camera's on the Westgate freeway for an approximately 60km stretch of road. Its guaranteed at least most will get you.

Whos going to be the first to put the same set of plates on two cars and drive through the first and last within a minute of each other, clocking up a 1000km/h fine?
I'd lend my plates to that cause, it would be hilarious!

And then take your fine to Today Tonight

                          Bozz,
Ick! 7! I feel really sorry for you guys! My guess is that it's only gonna take 2 of them taking happy snaps of you and you and your done like a pot-roast... Canberra isn't nearly so bad.. then again, half of Cbr drivers do 10k under the limit anyway... but I won't get started on that...

Zac! nice! I'd love to see that!

Bozz, im well awear that the speed cameras exist on the main freeways and hiways, but i was suggesting the Main roads, such as princess hwy (could make millions in just a month there!) Westall Roads, Springvale road, mahrondah hwy , Nepean hwy, Centre Road, North/Wellington Road, etc.

Roads that are fairly normal, with 2-3 lane construction with speed limits of around 60-70. Although there are less drivers during the night, there are lot more people speeding at night, even by just 5kms, which will yield *cha-ching* instant $125.
