Anyone got any good websites with information on old school Soarers like that? Interior, Options, Engine Specs etc I'm actually interested in one now.

lol - i had one of those a few years back (your pics don't work anymore BTW) it had a CRT (yup) screen etc - it was the GT Limited one

Pissed me right off - the airbag suspension leaked, it used about 18L/100km and was downright slow (and auto to boot)

the ABS, Cruise, heater, blinkers (eventually) and a few other things didn't work - your typical "Import Nightmare" (tm) - but for 5k it should be ok

btw - some cow pulled out in front of me from her driveway (which is what made me sell it) - brand new pulsar (now with a VERY bent b pillar - the headlight cost over $1000 (this IS a few years ago) but it took so long to get the parts etc to repair it that it fell out of rego, i ended up selling it for about $6800 (no rego, indicator stalk broken) - there was a little lesson for me (not one i learnt from, i have another imported toyota)

I remember seeing quite a few at thoes el-cheapo car yards siting in corners.. Mine Brenan on magic mile had one that looked quite nice for $4999 - it was there for like 6 months.

Anyway I reckon they are a real nice car - a "real" soarer in that people dont think its a gay lexus thing.. Rumor has it they are lighter than a Mk3 supra which is what they are based on.

A mate of mine picked up a non turbo 1G powered one for $200 from the Auctions which is a good price. It had a few probs that he fixed up and sold it for $2K.

A factory manual one is friging rare - and in fact I have seen debates on if they even exist in 7mgte format. I remember Peter someone had one on here. He was out at a PF track day at willobank with it a while ago and it had a 5speed conversion that he had done using supra bits. Seamed to go prety well. I think he sold it though and brought a series6 rx7..

Anyway good luck with it.. Im sure Shifty and Nick have plenty of advice.

Bloody hell you've got a good memory! Yep that was mine. Sold the car to Suzmot. That track day would have to be something like four years ago now? Chris Rogers told me he hand timed it at 64seconds Only now do I look back and realize he was just trying to be nice! :p

I'm on my second series 6 now. Come up and say hi next QR track day.

            Those CRT screens were bizarre!!

I have a gz20 soarer at the moment. As all have said it is not the fastest car on earth but it goes alright for something of its age. Mine has had no electrical problems except the left power window. Great for just cruising around and the best thing is that they are so rare around here. Most people don't even know what it is. By the way, mine is for sale so pm me if interested.

Just got an email from Dad in Aus - He bought a Soarer yesterday as well!
A V-8 one, with 80,000kms on the clock in very good condition.
                  Can't wait to see it.

7MGTE engines require religious head gasket changing But a lovely enigine none the less.

                      I have a 92/93 UZZ30 Soarer forsale if anyone's interested
No futzy EMV screen or troublesome Airbag suspension (name one car with airbag suspension that hasn't given heaps of trouble when over 10 years old)

From what I've read once you replace the gasket and do everything properly you should be prety right. Time will tell I guess...

as long as its a copper/steel head gasket and the head is tentioned properly and checked occaisonaly, you should be fine.

welcome to the joys of owning a soarer
so many lovely gadgets, unfortunately, they can break
but if you treat the car well it will last for ever

its nice to keep in mind that when these cars were new they were around $70-100,000!

                            oh how the value plummets!

                              Thanks man

It is amazing how much crap they have in them, compared to my friends VN Calais of the same year, there's such a gap!

/me looks at his vn of the same year and cries ... someone donate me a soarer !!!

i read an article once where it said that since the soarer was ans supra where imported into nz, they could actually work out a price for them over here.

top of the range v8 soarer with the lot - 161k

top of the range jza80 supra - 182k

dont quote me, but im oretty sure thats what it said. crazy, but look at the deals we get now. thank god for imports
