You'd be out of your mind spending 7-10K on an MX6. There are heaps for sub 7K, with the majority around the 5500 - 6K depending on mileage, model and condition of course, with the odd few worth over 6K that have been heavily modified or are absolutely immaculate. The pov pack version (no sunroof, electric suspension, abs, 4WS, velour trim) if found can be had for even less than $5500. There is also the 626, which is the same car but 4 door which funnily enough often sells for a lot less than the MX6.

I sold my MX6 about 8months ago for $5500, and sold all the aftermarket mods separately (in total i got around $7k). Pics can be found HERE! if interested. My MX6 had clocked 310,000 at the time, and it was still running strong. It hadn't been modified mechanically very much which i think contributed the most to it lasting so long. I still keep in touch with the person that bought the car and to date he has not had any problems.

Overall they are a good car, and if you’re looking for a budget turbo you can't go wrong. Admittedly, if you can afford an extra few thousand I’d look for an s13 Silvia. They can be had for around 10K these days, and compared to the mx6 they'd be a much better car in the long run, especially if you are interested in modifications and 2nd hand parts!

The things that I thought sucked about the MX6 the most is that they are FWD and handle like a boat!

Do a search for the MX6 yahoo group, plenty of people there from around the world that can help you with pretty much anything.

I think www.mx6.com is a better bet than the yahoo group these days. Just ignore the majority of the yanks though, most of them seem a little slow when it comes to all things mechanical, and especially turbocharged. What do you expect though, with how cheap they are over there seems like a lot of young school type are buying them.

it has been a while since i've looked at any MX6 forums !

I know of one guy on the yahoo forum in America pulling 12's, and last I spoke to him he was aiming for 11's. The MX6 definitely has potential, but you have to spend big bucks to get there, especially when compared to other cars. I find most the Americans can the stock 2.2l for the twin cam non turbo 2l and then go from there. Don't know much about the conversion to be honest, but apparently the 2L motor is far better in every aspect.

Yeah that would be the FE DOHC engine, they get pretty hyped up about it. There are a few being done in australia now and are expected to make a bit of power.
It is pretty much better and stronger in everyway, which is strange as it is an engine that only ever came NA except for a very very limited number (something like 30 for rallying or something). Stock NA they make similar power to 2.2l turbo I believe. The engine bolts pretty much straight in, same mounts and box. Engine management obviously needs some changing though.

There is supposedly to be some yank running 11's with that engine in an mx6. There is another probe GT (same engine/box originally) running 12.3@128mph again with that engine. Both quite quick I reckon, but no doubt stupid amounts of money would have been spent there!

For sure.... and those times would have been done on slicks i'd imagine, but the potential is there at the end of the day !
